Have a 63 F100 but has a 57 bed on it with no tailgate. Just wondering if the stepside tailgates would fit? I know they used the same step side beds for a while from 50's to the late 60's and maybe 70's. Thanks for the help

  3. '63 and '57 fleetside beds are the same. The new style bed that matches the styling of the '61-'66 cab came out in '64. So, the bed that is on your truck that matches the styling of the '57-'60 cab may have come from a '57, but it is correct for your truck. Don't know if the '57-'63 fleetside gate is dimensionally the same as the stepside gate, but it latches differently.

I respectfully disagree with your statement about the 'new style' beds not being introduced until 1964.
The 1961 model year Styleside trucks, onward through 1966, were in the vast majority equipped with the matching styled beds. I have seen some trucks from that era that had the '57/'60 Styleside beds, some may have come from the factory that way for reasons unknown to me. Some were installed later to replace damaged or non-existent beds. But in either case, they are a distinct minority.

By the way, I worked for a Ford dealer in the mid '60s and had considerable exposure to the products of the time.
