    hey guys,

thrashing preety hard on the ford today and had to come in for the night. but before i go back to thrashing tomorow --anybody in the area is more then welcome to come lend a hand. i had one question.

i threw the generator back on motor tonight and its not lining up correctly. i got the little stub on the bracket sinced up with the notch in the gen case and when its all on there the pulley is about a 1/4 inch to far foward to allow the belt to work without interferance.

i tried one of the other gens laying on the bench and they all ended up in the same spot. anythoughts? the bracket for the gen--stock 53 v8 flat8 is as tight as its going to get to the motor as far as i can tell so i cant think of any way to get it to go back further. and i cant imagine moving the water pump pully is feasable with out hitting the other belt.

im going to get ahold of the previous owner who took it off last tomorow and see if he knows what he tweaked but on the off chance he doesnt does anybody have any idea how to move a gen back an 8th to a quarter inch back so the pulleys line up?

im preety positive it was all on there correct before so i dont know when im trying to put it all back together why its not working?

    thanx guys,

and to anybody who wants to thrash tomorow and is the area /im in hawarden ia . just pm me or something. ill be working on brakes :p

Why not take the generator apart and drill a new hole in the case?

What he said. I used a 12V housing and had to drill my own hole for the locating pin.

I didn;t even take mine apart to drill. I just didn't go all the way through. I am running a later (12V) gen so I just drilled the hole where I wanted it.

As I recall some cases had 2 holes for locating the gen. mount pin. Perhaps you are not lining up with the correct hole. Also, check and make sure you are not somehow misaligning the fan bracket carrier with the gen. mount and the intake.

The other hole is for some 6 cylinder application that also mounts the gen on a strange bracket-cradle. Puzzling phenomena...
