NO NO NO... leave the socks on -leave the socks on!!!

  6. Those little HiLux Stout trucks were really hard-working trucks in the day. A girl I dated in high school drove one regularly. Hers was red and tan, with a big Thrush muffler on it. Sounded mad all the time...the truck, not her!

The US trucks had the front turn signals mounted on top of the front fenders as a separate unit, like '50s US pickups, rather than like the Japanese style shown.

Be fun to build one, in any case!

Now that's funny. Funny cuz it's true.

  8. Hey...how about starting with a 68-69 International Harvester PU that Toyota started with as well? These might be a bit easier to find parts for, especially in farm country, where International pickups sold quite well back then as in the breadbasket part of the US, farm implement dealers were sometimes more prevalent than Big 4 dealers...

    Just a thought...

I really like this concept and i really hate imports with a passion. Plus , you got to love the hot jgirls in the shot. I lived there for 3 yrs and loved the jgirls. Plus i think thats the only reason to go to an import show .

Shit, the only imports I ever got into were VW's, and I usually hate mini's but I have to say I dig that thing. Seen it in one of the Minitrucker Mags a year or so ago(that truck was on the cover, and the only reason I picked the book up).

No, actually, not at all. I've stared at how each component mates up with the one next to it, other than being a body on frame pickup, the IH and Toyo look totally different.

Maybe the mechanicals are reverse engineered, wouldn't put it past em, but showing pics of the obviously different truck bodies ain't gonna convince many folks.

here we go again with the "If it`s not American it`s crap"
One thing some of you hard assed, die hard, true blue round eyes have to realieze is anything made before 1985 in japan is a classic (atleast the good cars) Do you know how hard it is to find parts for something that old in Japan is? When I had my 1974 toyota Corona the only thing I could find was the side glass and that was easy because it was all flat and I could have the local glass shop cut it for me. I had to fabricate every body panel that was rusted out or smashed and that took damn near 3 years and alot of fighting with the wiffy to get her done.
The japanese don`t have long lost junk yards to pick from or that old guy down the street with the parts you need. If you look at the first picture of the stout it took the guy 5 years and 20K to get the truck to where it is now. That is dedication to the hobby in my book, and he deserves to have hot, sexy women (that are of age) drapped all over his truck while he`s wearing a big cheesy grin like he`s the shit. So instead of trying to compare, or down play how much work it actually took to put something like that together, or how it looks. (because I have seen alot worse on the HAMB) Why don`t you just enjoy the fact that old iron is being saved no matter which coast it is on.

    (putting my soap box away)
