Yes, I realize it's a 4 sp console. I was using the 3 speed illustration to point out the fact that Buicks, for the most part, are option laden.

Anyone who would lay out the cash for a 4 speed and a tach, would most likely shell out a few more clams for buckets and the deluxe console... Simply the nature of the buick buyer.

And I think the fact that of the million or so cars GM produced each year, that the ammount of buicks that were sold with 3 speeds numbers in the hundreds or less points this out very well.

Yes, it is a rare console. What's interesting is that it's rare because it was "base model" equipment on a car line that was known for having LOTS of options.

Weird... My brother had a 69 GS 400,stage 1,4 speed car with that style
of console,no tach, and bucket seats. But it was 10 yrs. old when he got it
so no telling what coulda been changed. Still with the 4 speed and a 3.64
posi behind that torque monster was the best $500 car ever.:)

I had a few 64 Chevelle SS's in the late 60s and a 65 Chevelle SS in the early 70s.....A long long time ago, but that sure looks like the back half of the consoles in my old cars. i recall the rear seat light at the end, plus the general shape of it. The front half was different for auto or 4sp

I just sold one of those on e-bay for about $125. It is a 64/65 Chevelle console rear section. If the bolt tabs are not broken off they are worth a little over $100. Much less if the tabs are broken. Your tabs look like they are not broken.

Definately the back half of a '65 Chevelle Malibu SS console.

  11. Funny, I just about passed on this thread thinking, "great another what is it thread." Then I thought, hmm, might be a short Buick console he's asking about, nahhhhh, too odd ball. Then there it is! Now I find out it's right around the corner from me sheesh!

Well you guy's got it pegged as to what it is. I have 3 of those, all out of '67 Buick GS 400's, (at least I think I have, Lenoir City is just about 30 miles from here:eek:) Thing is, I think you guy's may have the facts a little off. One of the consoles I have is out of my dad's '67 GS 400 he bought new and it came factory with the M22 and this short console and the deluxe bucket seat interior. Same with one of the other's I have. Dad's buddy bought the other car used in 69 and it was never changed. I think I even have the factory vacuum gauge that came in one of my consoles, (not a tach.) As for getting the long console with the deluxe interior package, dad tried to get one for his car and the Buick dealer couldn't even order it. There was no such thing for a Buick, not even a part number, no way to order it. He ended up having to go to a Chevy dealer and ordering one for a Chevelle! You'll never see a restored 4 speed GS with a long console in it, none of them came that way. The base GS with the bench seat came with no console at all, just a rubber boot. Strangly, you could get a long console for the deluxe interior if you wanted the 2 speed automatic. Buick did some weird stuff. We always thought it was because they were used to selling old man cars to old men, so when the muscle car wars started they didn't quite get it right off. Of course, by '70 they had it wired up tight with the GS 455 Stage 1 :D:D

Well, did you keep one of your consoles on an old junk pile outside a barn and was your wife having a garage sale you didn't know about? :0

  13. LOL... no, I was just making a lame joke at 2 am. I did get hit by scrap thieves a while back but they're not smart enough to steal anything like that. I'm glad you are doing so well on ebay. Sometime you're the windshield, right? Did you see anything else at the grage sale that looked like it might be from a GS? I'm always on the look out for GS parts.
