I bet that thing could turn on a dime. Ever drive a forklift? They are driven and stopped by the front wheels, and steered at the rear.
Wow. That is some impressive digging. The builder was named Maystrike, but from the pic I would say WILL Strike. Repeatedly. Even smirking at his ride might get you struck... B.
Well i think what stumped everyone is that the hood ornament is upsidedown on the wreck photo. BTW congratulations to Bdamfino.
Bdamfino, your more than a grenade inspector. I now know who I'm gonna contact if I loose something.....DAMN your good
hmm, it needs a 12v92 detroit powering it, turn that rear wheel into molten rubber in 2 seconds lol....
Holy!!! Very entertaining thread. Nice work bdamfino ! Is there anything the forces of the HAMB can't figure out?
almost disappionted that its been identified. Cool that it has but I always looked foward to this thread popping back up with another oddball guess.
So it was built by Frank Mayes? Is he the 20 minute egg behind the wheel? If he built the car he doesn't look too happy about it
Chad Did you take these pic in Okmulgee. I think I've got a couple of pics of this in our Restaurant. A guy from work gave them to me saying his cousin built it. I'll ask him tomorrow if he knows anything more about it.
Un-fucking-believable that this actually got identified after all that time. Well played. Here's hoping it got saved and not scrapped.
I looks like it had pretty decent craftsmanship from the photos. Thats a whole bunch of cutting and welding. I dont see anything that looks like filler or lead on whats left.
It was, I think, here in Okmulgee about 2-3 months before you originally posted. I saw it or something simular about 6 blocks from my house about then. It disappeared about a week later. About a yr ago the guy at work gave me 2 pics of it and said his cousin or uncle built it in the 50's in Mo. or Ark. and put it in the basement of their house. He said he remembers playing on it when he was a kid. He said he doesn't know what happened to it after that.
thanks thats a hell of a photo shop trick to make that black and white pic but i have a new mystery to work on....
I'm so glad I was present on such a momentous day LOL I will always remember right where I was on this day. Much like when Reagan was shot, when the Challenger blew up and when the world trade centers were hit.
when ya put it that way ..this seems important .... now I don't have to keep bringing this post up every few months ..
Amazing that you found old photos of this oddball vehicle. I hope it wasn't scrapped on their latest move.
Yes chadillac found it some years ago and posted here. Then The Old Motor posted a photo of it with many of the details. They even found the patent drawings from when Frank Mayes who built it patented it. All of the details and photo are here.
so excited .. still had to look at all the answers again... so many wrong answers that some seem kinda right now
I knew that all along but nobody asked me... HA! This is pretty cool!! Now what are we gonna look for??
Ya gotta love the H.A.M.B.!!! ... and HAMBers like David (T-Head) Greenlees ... his "Antique Automobile Photo Magazine" website is one of my faves!!! ... click thumbnail to view website
I don't care about the credit.I found the story at David's site and posted to the cyclecar thread.I DID cite my source! Truthfully,I had read the original thread a long time ago.I had forgotten all about it.I'm as amazed as everyone else that whole story has come to light.I am going to be evn more thrilled if the remains can be found again. It is an interesting little rig.
