Build it how you see it in your day dreams, sell the parts you no longer need to fund the special purchases to make it special.. they just clutter up your storage area until your sick of them taking up space..
40s high school hot rod is great. Fit a down drought carb. Big and little tiers on 35 wires and reversed spring eyes front and rear. Instant hot rod without spending a bunch.
@Raddad Juice Brakes, a Ford T170 TOD [3+1]adapted to a modified torque tube, and a 12 volt conversion If you really must swap the engine, then adapt a 2300 SOHC Ford to the T170. [don't cut it up] Keep it as original, and try and keep the format close to original [4 cyl , floor shift, stock wire wheels] And drive the wheels off it. If you drove it to a cars and coffee with it looking like this. And have "war stories" about it being in the family for 50+ years [truth]...........It would grab more street cred than any high dollar "gold chainer" car. Sometimes Less is More! Edit: just make sure the seat is in nice condition [reupholster if neccessary]
I suggest reading @Hitchhiker 's mega thread on prepping his banger powered Model A Pickup for daily driver duty. Packed with great tech and pretty darn inspirational too! https://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum...chhiker-hot-rod-model-a-banger.777933/page-30
Are you planning to do the work yourself or have a shop do it? 10k doesn't last long at shop rates. Do you have the patience/energy/time to hunt bargains on CL/swap meets/friends of friends? New is quick, but a budget killer. Do you have experience driving w/ a non-synchro gearbox? If not, one of the trans options listed above may be the biggest bang for the buck in driveability. As many have said, get it on the road before making changes. You may be surprised what resources come out of the woodwork when people see you driving it.
It sounds to me like maybe this just isn't the right car for you. The vision and plan for ANY car has to be that of the owner, along with the desire and skills to follow through. If you don't find yourself in that position and mindset, peddle it and buy something you can get into. Too many half-hearted starts wind up being sold off as abandoned projects. Good luck!
