It was 1963 and I was ten. Went to my buddy's house for the weekend and discovered he had a stack of old car magazines his uncle gave him. We spent the whole weekend reading and re-reading every one.

I went home and mailed in a subscription to "Rod & Custom" magazine. I still have all those issues from 1963 (and hundreds more from before and after).
I've been hooked on this silly hobby ever since.

So my name is a pun on R&C, but it also describes the '58 Belair (now long gone) in my avatar:

"Wow, it only has a little rot in the floor!" Until I started grinding away...

Actually, it stemmed from my big brother's name, Harold. His friends used to call him Harold from Hell, and in turn, I ended up being referred to as Jimmy from Hell!He used to be Harold in Hell, then he got a divorce.

Pigpen. I got that awful name in 1966, on the USS Kitty Hawk, working in the avionics shop. I was wiring some test panels one day while we were out at sea off the coast of Nam, and made a horrible mess. Wire clippings, spot tie, solder, pins, plugs, an awful mess. The shop chief gave me that awful name because I didn't get the mess cleaned up fast enough for him. Almost 40 years gone by, and I still have that awful name. Disgusting! Here's a pic of my smiling face and some of the pig iron (aluminum) that I once worked on, in another time, and another place. More pic's and info at www.vf-114.org.

I'm a Heinlein freak. Lazarus Long and Maureen and of course Dora, are my favorite characters. I'm hoping for a TV series.

i got the nick name my freshman year of highschool in metal shop because that year they banned smoking on school grounds. I use to take a piece of 1/2 plate into the welding area and just waste rod after rod so i could smoke. i was also the only one that knew how to even use the arc welder.

kustom came my senior year for the cars i had and it has stuck for the past 15 years

back when i was just a little guy i could be seen tagging along side of my dad . his nick name was YOGI so its only fitting that i got BOOBOOO as a nick name early on. when i first got on the HAMB i strugled with a nickname but always got back to booboo and since no one elase had it it was a perfect fit .

Email, name of the garage, rods & relics, basically didn't think about anything fancy at the time, and upon reflection now I don't much give a shit. Had a truck for several years and the real truckers were irritated cause I didn't gat a "handle" for the CB. Never was much of a conformist.
Sawzall get's my vote for best handle, got 3 myself.

"Jangle" is a word that kind of created itself over time (long funny story) and I just incorporated it into my speech and became known as the jangle guy. It's a multi-purpose word: to jangle is to screw up, relax, party, whatever you need it to be.

I considered taking advantage of being Rockys brother and naming myself Bullwinkle or Pebbles or some such shit, but as usual, took my own path...
Anyone know where this path leads???

Oh, and the Tyre Friars Hot Rod Gang is our tiny club of tiny hot rodded English street/strip cars...

I'm more curious about where you went to find that avatar than I am about your screen name. Do you mind telling where you got it at? Thanks, CH
