I usually don't respond to these kinda posts, but here goes.

I was at rehearsal at Marti Broms house several years ago. She was sound checking her vocal mike before we started the old Nat King Cole tune "Straighten up and Fly Right". The song is about a buzzard that takes a monkey for a ride. She started saying "buzzard" into the mike to check it. Anyhow, her 5 yr. old daughter thought that was hilarious. The daughter and I were pretty close, so we started a game where we would accuse each other of being a buzzard. It kinda stuck that she called me that and I used it for email and stuff and put it here. Now people from the HAMB know me that way.

I like it 'cause it reminds me of Ivy. She just turned 13 and is a super cool young lady. Probably the only kid in her middle school to see X at a punk club on a school nite, and dig it.

  2. I have a twin brother (Springer) and together we were known as the "Mongolian Brothers" . We are both big guys with goatees and one of our friends thought it fit. I shortened it to Mongo like the "Blazing Saddles" character. I also had a cat named Mongo once. Mongo like cars and candy!!

My real name is Greazy Fink Ratrod, but I figured nobody would believe me, so I made up this name.

Real name John (named after a promise made to the Virgin of San Juan by my grandmother, when it looked like I was not gonna make it at birth.......ACE is pretty standard Americana for anyone good or dependable at their craft or business (WWI flying Ace,Ace hardware,Ace mechanic,etc...etc...) It was given to me by Ed Roth, and that's a great source of pride to me in my work....Some think I'm referring to Johnny Ace the late singer who lost his life in the '50s backstage at the Sam Houston Coliseum, playing Russian roulette before a show....no connection....My old man played at that club in the 60's in a Tx band called Sunny & the Sunliners....opened for James Brown and his Fab.Flames! Was told he "played like a nigga" by JBs' horn section! Obviously a great source of pride among sax men to be told that, unless you are in a polka band,I imagine? That place is long gone.....many Texans will remember it,I'm sure....Just a little extra reading info...

I usually use "Mojo Rising" at forums, and so I just shortened it here. It's kinda from "LA Woman", but more from Muddy Waters in intent. Workin a mojo hand is a charm to do things, like get a woman, or to sway your luck, or get money. I believe in supernatural shit, so I think it suits me ok, better than anything else I can think of.

  20. RPW = Revolutions Per Webb. My name is Per Webb and I used my real name the beginning of HAMB (about 8 years ago I think). Then some wondered what "per webb" was. They had heard "per hour", "per ounce" and so on but never "per webb"...
I think it was Dr Spellcheck that came up with the name RPW (later Dr Spellcheck changed his name to Dr J).

I'm almost positive no one here will know what i'm talking about....Joe Dick....lead singer in the independent Canadian movie HARD CORE LOGO, who is played by Hugh Dillon, who is the lead singer of the HEADSTONES, which IS the hardest working rock and roll band in Canada. And, still, nobody knows what im talking about....

LD... long story, but the short version... in school, I had a roommate who for whatever reason, liked to purposely screw up or otherwise embellish peoples names. So after a few million iterations Duane became Doooooowayne, and finally Duan-o.
And based on a propensity to consume massive quantities of alcohol to the point that yours truly could easily be "poured" into and out of bars, cars, etc... I was then known as "Liquid Duan-o", or for short, LD.

  27. Pulled my...'26 Tudor body (or what was left of it) out of a cicken farm in Fla and had it shipped to Ohio. Was an ex drag car or so I was told. Real POS...when he said old drag car he probably meant that they used to drag it behind the tractor to keep the weeds down. My nickname for the last 20+ years has been Curly. Had a head a hair that looked like I was the lead singer from some 80's glam band...now the shit grows like that out of my ears and nose...and what the fuck is with this uni-brow shit. If I could change it I would have to go with Craven Moorehead.

  28. Many years ago, fresh out of high school I enrolled in auto body shop at Ivy Tech in Gary. At the time I had a well-used '79 Honda Accord. I fixed the only small rust hole I could find in one of the fenders, then got Ron Fournier's "Metalforming Handbook" from the mall.

By the time I was halfway done with school(2 years), that Honda had a stretched tilt nose, cowl hood. gullwing doors, handmade ground effects and a huge whaletail on the hatchback, and another front '79 Accord clip (with complete powertrain attached), stuffed up inside the rear. Twin motors and all wheel drive, and big cooling scoops in the quarter panels.

I followed that up with turning a Rabbit beater into a 3-wheeled trike.

I credit my shop teacher with the nickname. Every time I started on some new body mod, he'd wander over and say "... so, Dr.Chop, what's next on the car this week...".

    Thanks, John... [IMG]

After school it graduated to a CB radio nick, and now on the Internet...

It's DocChop here because when we switched to the new server/new HAMB I could'nt get the old nick to work...

    Doc
