im pretty sure its been talked about here..but i could'nt find anything by searchin.. my 61 chevy (X frame) has a bad case of the 'body leans'. the driver side sits about 2-3 inches lower than the passenger side. the car is on bags and when i raise or lower it, the lean is really noticable, as the passenger side goes up and then stops and then the drivers 'catches up' with it. what have you guys done to get both sides equal in height??? i was thinking about adding a spacer under the bags cups on the drivers side to try and get it to sit level with the pass side... ive tried to change the way the air lines are ran..thinking the pass side was getting a straight shot of air and the drivers side was T'ing off of it..but it didnt make any difference. right now ive got it set up as front/back. ive got the valves to make it a 4 way set up (each corner with its own valve), but its not set that way yet. thanks.
Are all your bushings in good shape? when you say 'it catches up ' Sounds like slop in the bushings. Maybe someone cut the coils crooked. Maybe someone with more 'bag knowalage can shed some light here. Sparky
maybe you're too fat? do you have at least a front anti-sway bar? it will help. even better would be fitting some great big fat bars in front and back. is it level when pancaked? might have to check for signs of earlier body damage/twisted frame. man 2-3 inches is a lot, i notice a freakin 1/4"!
im so fat that the car leans..when im not even in it. has a stock front sway bar. sits level when all the way down (on the frame) frame 'looks' ok. doesnt show any damage or look twisted..is there anyway to check this w/out taking the body off??
Sounds like you have paired bags when you really need, on any system is individually valved bags at each corner. That way there ain't no way in hell what you are describing can happen. Unless it is a bad bushing or bent a arm situation. If you do have four seperat systems, if you have the same amount, pounds of air in the bags is it still uneven? Suspect a bent anti-roll bar too, in that case.
ill check out the bushings. i cant see it being bent a arms because i dont think that would affect the front and rear at the same time. ive got the bags set up front/rear now. separate valves to be installed soon. and its the same with the sway/anti roll bar attached and unattached. thanks.
With two bags fed off the same source it's like you are pumping up a camping air mattress and your wife is sitting on one end and your beer cooler is sitting on the other end. You know darn well when the airmattress is only half full your "lightweight" wife will be floating on air and the breer cooler will still be sitting on the ground, or if you had sme one standing on a board the size of a skate board on a half full mattress, they would end up with one end of the board "rising" before the other and would have to 'teetertotter" balance the board to stand even on it. It's the same with the car, as soon as it starts coming up with paired source bags the cars weight picks a balance bias and stays leaning that way. If you parked it on the "wrong" side of the street it would probably come up th other way, because the cars center of gravity would be biased to the other side, like the person balancing the board on the air mattress. Does that make sense? Ya gotta have four seperate valve systems.
yea that makes sense. the gas tank is on the drivers side and i kind of thought that the weight of it was 'helping' the car to lean that way. ive got the battery on the passenger side in the back to help a little.. ill have to get the other valves in there.. thanks everyone.. later.
I agree with DrJ. When you have one valve Teed off between two bags, that air can fluctuate from side to side between them. You'll notice it even more when you start driving it, it will want to lean really bad around corners. It's the same with a two-dump hydraulic setup. Adding two more valves should solve the problem, as long as you wire up a switch for each individual wheel so you can adjust for yourself, other passengers, et cetera.
I think DrJ hit it on the head. I'm 5'8", 195lbs, when I had a car with a frt/rr set up, my passenger's side always went up higher and faster. Now that I have a set where are four corners are seperate, it goes up evenly. I bet you have a problem with body roll too.............
You ever try measuring the bags in their expanded length to determine that they are all equal-distant in length? only when im goin around a corner..[/QUOTE]
I bet it is in how you have your bags set up.......... the air wants to backfill to the less heavy side....... What Dr J said is correct....... How is your system set up ????
