Can anybody tell me what these holesmight be used for? They appear to be factory drilled right above the step on a '55 c3100 stepwise. They are on both sides of the bed. Spare fuel cans maybe? Thank you in advance.

I have a spare tire mount with four bolts in the same location. Since there is one way close to the wheel fender it might have been an in bed mount.

What makes you think they're factory drilled? I've seen several bedsides without the holes

There is a perfectly symmetrical set on the opposite side of the bed and I can see where only two holes have ever had bolts in them on each side. Looks quite factory, doesn't appear to be home drilled.

Oddly enough the truck also sports the driver side outside mount. I suppose it's possible that they were home drilled, just looks to clean and perfect for that.
