Well, i am wondering what you guys think about my idea. Most all of my ideas get shot down on here, so dont make me feel too bad. This may sound crazy but since hot rods dont have air i was wondering what you guys would think if i would cut a whole in the roof of my 32 Ford Vicky? Now before you get all mad at me, dont worry it is just fiberglass. I want to make it look like Creases coupe but with my Vicky. I think it would look neat and i wanna make it removable so on a hot summer mid western day i can remove it and get some air flow inside there, or take it off and cruise up the River Road and look at the bluff's and all the Eagle's soarin. And i also just think it will look cool, maybe not as cool as Creases coupe but still cool.

If you lived down here in the South, where it gets hot, you might like the shade a roof supplies.

Awesome, now thats what i need! Encouragement like that! Thanks 40StudeDude! Now, what about the looks? I still think it might look kinda neet and i also think it would be cool to see stuff goin on above me like....birds, stars, clouds, and stuff like that. Hey, i guess i can still run A/C if i do this with my roof.

Did you consider having a roll down rear window?( like the '32 coupes ) wouldn't work until you are moving, byt it would help moving air in the car, and you would not have to gusset the top area, you will lose some strenght if you cut a hole in it

I would cut the hole and form an edge like the original...then make a removable tin insert and punch it full of louvers...also make a solid one for bad weather.

What's the consensus on cloth sunroofs (like old VW's)?Especially on customs. I've been thinking about it for a bit, and just not sure if it'll look right. I know from a driver's perspective I'd love it, just not sure if they're too "minitruck".

Someone posted pics awhile back of a Merc done that way. Like a 50s B-400. It was kinda neat, but I don't think it had a back window, which ruined the concept for me. I think it would be a better concept on a 30s car. Although, there was a 50ish (?) Nash that came that way factory.

i think hatch has the right idea, louvers would look bad ass and get the air you crave in there. It's always been enough for me just to roll the windows down though....

Ya i like that idea, but what if im drivin and it starts rainin? and How would the air get inside? Wouldnt airflow just bounce off the louvers and go up? well in my dads 41, if its a hot day and the top is not down we bake, even with the windows down and the back window out. And in my car it will be even smaller than his 41 so Smaller area=less time to heat=it will get hotter. But thank you guys for all the input!

  19. James,in this world of cookie cutter cars,DARE to be different! Nick,Does your Dad's 41 have insulation of any kind inside? If not,you might suggest that.If it does, just sounds like an airflow problem.I know from the years I rode bikes,if the air outside is smokin hot, like it gets here in good old Southern Illinois, the air inside is naturally be just as hot.I have one suggestion(non-traditional),A/C!!!Remember where we live!Humidity can be killer in our part of the world!

  20. A/C.........keeps the pomp in place.

I think a sliding ragtop would be the TICKET. I had considered it for my 40 but the car was too big. your vicki would be a perfect canidate IMHO.

look at this website for more ideas

cant say anything for their product, as I never went ahead with the idea. I'd love to see someone do this..

    and show us photos.

If it starts rainin, pull the louvered panel out, wrap it in plastic and put it back in...continue cruising. It's better to look good than to feel good!!!!!!!!!!!!!(option 2,you could also just get wet)

If you need more ventilation, put in some fresh air ducting.
