What to I do????..........please help

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by skatermann, Mar 8, 2011.

  1. Consider this:

You have the chance to get started building the coupe now, you might not even find a roadster you can afford for a lot of years! When you do find the roadster you could swap the bodies, placing the roadster onto your completed chassis and start driving almost immediately. (The chassis are completely interchangeable). This would allow you to sell the coupe body (or place it onto the roadster chassis and sell a rolling coupe project).

Plus, as has been stated.... You already gave your word to buy the coupe!

That funny! I was backwards of you! I wanted a coupe, and bought a roadster body off evilbay, got there and the guy had a better coupe, so I ended up with that instead! I would keep your commitment, and take the coupe (I am partial to them though), and you might find someone who will trade for it, or be able to make some $$ on it in the future... if you don't end up getting attached to it and building it! Please don't make a "coupester" out of it though!

Yes,get the coupe as you already gave your word. Once you have the coupe you can either build it , sale it, or trade it for a roadster. I always wanted a roadster and it wasn't till I was 61 years old that I got mine. I had every thing you could ever think about driving in between then and now, and never regert any of them they all gave me a good time and lot of friends and stories. Enjoy what ever you build, you have a life time ahead of you set your sites and go for it.

Old cars are like houses now.You buy whats available and affordable for you now and trade up later when the opportunity arises. Besides that, they are getting harder to find in good shape. It might take you the rest of your life to find another.I once sold a 32 coupe thinking if I wanted to I could get another later. Now they are out of my price range except rotted out crap.

Agreed, just buy it and maybe you'll just want to keep it :) if not resell.

  7. Thank you guys for all the input! The thing is I just bought all the parts to build a rolling Av8 chassis. The coupe is no where near complete, and the seller wants $3500 for just the body, which isn't that much if your making more than $8 an hour, but I can't afford that. At this point I only need the body to make a complete car.:(

First and foremost is you agreed to buy it. Stick to your word. I have a couple of friends that are looked up to by a ton of people because of their word. If they say it's sunny and clear you don't have to take a coat. Enjoy the coupe.

  10. I do love roadsters but i would go for the coupe. If you really want a roadster, build up a really cool coupe then sell or trade for a roadster that comes along. You can always build it into something you love.

  11. Well it sounds like you already want to back out of the deal. If you are be a man about it and tell the guy, add that you shouldnt have made an offer b/c you really want a roadster and you dont have the cash, dont try and skwirm away and hide from the guy.........

I can sure understand the desire for a roadster. That's why I built one. But I am sure looking forward to having a coupe.

I love my little modified but for all the reasons stated above, I think a coupe is a better deal.

The other thing is, if the price is right you can't go wrong buying original Ford steel. The 36 coupe I bought 15 years ago and have not touched yet has tripled in value.

I would add...even if you have to really stretch your finances or borrow money you won't be regretting it in 3-5 years when you still can't afford it.

So you bought a coupe body for $3500 and now want out of the deal. Hope you learn from this deal. When you say "I will buy it" means that you will buy it.

I am with the others that you should stick to your word. I have been in the same position as you with second thoughts on a purchase.

Look at it this way, you never pay to much for a Ford, just maybe bought it too soon. Mac and cheese isn't that bad 7 days a week. ;)

The coupe is much more versatile than a roadster. When it is raining or windy, roll up the window.

At 15, I would advise buying the coupe. You may be 40 before you will be able to afford to buy a roadster!

If you need to back out, be direct about it with the seller. You are still pretty young, and being upfront and honest may gain you some respect. Most people are expecting "kids" to be flaky and back out, so don't meet the stereotype by not calling back / showing up etc.

I've had a few verts, and always end up driving with the top up most of time. I enjoy a hard top with roll down windows much better. I'd like a vert again, but not as my primary toy.

  18. All the great advise of the hamb says coupe.
Sounds like you want someone to say roadster to make you feel better for reneging on a deal, but you wont regret the coupe if you do it.
I too say coupe, but then i live on the edge of a rain forrest.
Be sure to post pics, if you do the right thing.

Build it and drive it for a while. If you're not satisfied with the coupe, you can always sell it to fund a roadster.

Back out of the coupe and continue looking for a roadster....
and looking, and looking, and finally finding one...
    that you can't afford..

and having nothing but a rolling chassis....

You can't always get what you want
    But if you try sometime
    you just might find
    You get what you need

You've found it. Build the coupe. Someday you might have the coupe and a roadster too.

My current build... so far (needs a chop...)

You'll enjoy the coupe as much as a roadster and you can sell it in the future if you find a roadster. Keep your word and go for the coupe. only 15 and already a 30 coupe, sounds good to me.

    Joe,

Buy the coupe for all the reasons the guys here have given you, and keep in mind that this won't be your last car. Use this one to get your feet wet, learn how involved building a car is, and pick up skills, knowledge, and confidence that will last your lifetime. You say the coupe's in good shape which will make this a boatload easier than trying to resurrect a hulk and will mean it'll be on the road sooner and cost you less. Do the coupe. Enjoy the coupe. Drive the piss out of the coupe and when you're ready to part with it, look for a roadster or whatever has your attention at the time. You won't regret it if you buy and build the coupe, but you may someday regret it if you don't.

    Happy building,

    -Glenn

This guy is 15 yrs old and he has a 40 Ford and is buying a coupe? Really?

Maybe times have changed... about all I could afford at 15 was my bicycle, Hot Rod magazines, play pin ball machines now and then, and pop and chips.

If you are making $8 an hour you are going to kiil yourself trying to put together a model A project. Take your $3500 and buy a nice cheap 1949-54 Chevy and save the A project till you have the funds to make it fun

Buy the coupe but keep your eyes open for a roadster body. My bet is you'll find a roadster body, you'll sell the coupe body and immediately wish you had kept the coupe. Then you'll be back on here looking for to trade a roadster for a coupe. As soon as you make that trade you'll wish you kept the roadster. Best bet is to buy an Edsel.

  30. a coupe in the shop is worth two roadsters in the bush!
