wanna' heat shield my '50 ford coupe' and make it a bit more quiet,,,, but the heat thing is more important. what do i use as an insulation for the interior of the car? floors, toe boards, fire wall,,, there is nothing now. thanks, peeps. nic
I use a grey like mixed carpet padding to line the roof, floor and inside the door and rear panels against the body. It acts like a nice sound dead'ner and insulation for the heat. If you know how much you might need I can get some and ship it to you, you can cut it for your needs. Oh, door rubber is good as well and I an get that as well. PM me and let me know.
Use some of that new "Lizard Skin" CERAMIC spray-in insulation...guaranteed to lower the firewall temps and sound deaden the whole interior...1-877-278-9468, talk to Bob Call. They're in Lake Havasu, Aridzona. It sprays in just like undercoating and dries to a lizard skin texture...but the man will GUARANTEE to lower the temps coming off your firewall. R-
I found the rolls of the silver type insulation that they sell at the shows works great,,,,,,,,,,and ya can find it at about 1/3 the price at the local builders supply,,,,,look where the have the heating/cooling department! HRP
rumor has it that truck bedliner.. the paint on kind... works good... then in combination with that silver reflective backed padding you can get from JC Whitney or at swap meets (the stuff from summit is way too expensive) you are set. A friend of mine has a glass coupe.. the inside caught on fire... smoked the thing totally.. 5 foot flames out the windows.. everywhere where that reflective insulation was was totally not touched.. he had the headliner lined with it.. the whole roof was perfectly fine.. although the flames reached out the window and crispied the roof on the sides.. but where the silver stuff was.. it was fine. paint wasnt even blisterd on the firewall.. and it was so hot it melted the steering column...
I can vouch for the do-it-yourself bedliner stuff. In my jeep I yanked out the carpet and ran it for a while with just the metal floors and it was damn loud, but i got the $100 herculiner kit from pep boys (comes in black gray and red ) and painter that stuff on over christmas break and it makes it much quiter and now the floor right above the muffler only gets hot, but not scalding like it did before. (before the bedliner i was driving with my dad in the rain and there is a leak in the firewall somewhere, some water dripped down the firewall onto the floor and sizzled away!! no joke)
We were just discussing this a while back. There were some really good suggestions made about good but relatively inexpensive products. Do a search for: "Firewall insulation? Dynamat? Others?" and check out the replies. Regards, Big Daddy Eric
