  2. Anything you can lay your hands on and a couple more. A lot depends on how creative you are and who you know.

The most common tools you need to build a hot rod are the ones you need but don't have.

The professional builder can can accomplish amazing things with the simplest of tools. The rest of us need lots of tools and the best that we can afford. However, the most important tools are the right attitude and patience. Lacking these, most projects will never get done.

Here's some advice most will agree with, more tools than you ever thought was made, the budget part, what ever you think/plan $$$ X2 at least, always more than you ever thought, but, when it's all said and done, the tools will last your lifetime and the experience gained, self satisfaction makes it all worth while IMO.

We the unwilling, led by the unknowing, have been doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much with so little for so long we're now qualified to do anything with nothing.
    Does that help?

Multiply everything you need or do by 3 and you will be half way there.

  20. It depends on what you consider a hotrod and what you're building.

If you want a Tupperware 32 ford with speedway parts you can do that yourself with a 50 piece craftsman tool set, what ever is in your wife's homeowners tool kit, a drill, a touch bit of mechanical aptitude, the Hamb on standby a cellphone and a credit card.

Get a couple of note pads and a box of pencil's... you'll need them to complete the list of the tools I use.

  28. At one shop, With just a Torch, grinder, welder, hammer & center punch, measuring and marking tools we could and would build anything. Lunch box size to rail car mounted, blast furnace parts to complicated precision weldments. Anytime we wanted a new tool or piece of equipment the boss would say to us guys " you group of guys have already done amazing work without it, you damn sure don't need it now"

  30. That covers it completely. I still find myself needing a tool and improvise, fake it or borrow it from a friend. Planning a project, time and $$... double it and you'll be close.
