I need to know what years trans will be the same as the 3spd in my 54 belair, mine took a dump on me today...so I am trying to see what will be a bolt in and go type of deal here. I am keeping the 235, and dont want to make it a slug with a auto behind it... I believe in the power of the third pedal!!!
Hi,merg, '52-'53-'54 is exact fit bolt for bolt...try to use '53-'54, as they have roller bearings in the cluster vs. bushings used earlier. The innards from '49-'54 will interchange. 302
Thanks for the info. I have a buddy that has a 64 3spd and rear end, so I am gonna switch to a open driveline...
If you are going to go to the trouble of converting your car to open driveline, you should seriously consider a Saginaw four speed. They're not that expensive, and you'll actually get some benefit from the conversion. The '64 transmission is basically the same technology as the '54 box, only with an open driveshaft. That's a lot of trouble to go to to gain nothing.
