I had a pre-'93 B/W t-5 in my flathead in the '35 and a combo mustang/s-10 tailshaft behind my y-block in the coupster. Is anyone using something different given the current age and availability of t-5's? Would like to stay with 3 pedals and OD. I'm starting another flattie build with Coleman Bros. (Bill), got a '40 front and rear axle drum to drum, thinking a late '30's p/u cab, maybe chopped/channeled as an all weather lakes modified. Any adaptable trans options out there?
    Thanks,
    RB

I turned up a 80-84 F-150 three speed plus OD (T-170) to put behind the 59AB in my 32.
They come with three OD ratios, so use this chart to figure it out. There's a stamped steel tag riveted to the case that will have RTS-**.
They are pretty hard to find, but there are several threads both on here and Fordbarn about them.
They take a simple adapter and a sleeve or cutdown early Ford trans bearing retainer to adapt the early T/O bearing carrier.
They came in two bolt patterns, sometimes together on the same case.
The shifter is very close to the stock Ford position, even better than S-10 T5.

Are you saying they are too new, too old, hard to get?

I originally had an '86 F-150 aluminum OD in the '35. but the ratios were too wide between gears for the flattie with a 3.55 rear ratio. The t-5 fixed that.
I keep an eye open for t-5's pre 1993 for the ease of speedo connection, but haven't had much luck. Just wondering if anyone is adapting a newer trans to the flattie. Making them more available. Not worried about the age or miles, most can be rebuilt.
