Lotsa good fun! I want a standard, I know that. Something that will be good for daily driving, but will give me plenty of control behind the motor. I read a 400 works good, but I just wanted to double check with you guys since most of you know more than me, and I trust yous guys
a 400 does work good, but if ya wana do your own shiftin then I dont know enough about what 4 or 5 speeds could work with that. Im sure someone does though.
If you are going to really thrash it, a Tremec five speed would be my first choice. Plenty stout, good gearing, including overdrive fifth, and internal rail shifter. If you can find one, a Richmond gear five speed would work as well. Similar, but has lower first gear, direct fifth, and external side shifter. Second-tier choices would be a Muncie, Super T-10, Ford T&C Toploader, or Chrysler four-speeds.
What about a TH-400 our of a 68 Trans Am? It was rebuilt a few years ago, but never re-installed in anything. Would there be a considerable amount of work to adapt them, or would it be pretty straight-forward? The reason I ask is because I don't know too much about swapping different engine/****** setups into different vehicles. I have done engine work and things like that, but this will be my first time I have completely rebuilt a motor and put a different ****** on it to make it fit a car. Of course I am working with a couple other guys on this one, and they know what they're doing seing as how they have been doing this since the 60's, but any information I can get I try to soak up... Thanks
Got A 200-r4 In My Grand National Holds Up To 700+ Hp Its From Carl Rossler Though Kinda Pricey Works Great
Any Pontiac TH400 bolts right to an Olds engine with no modification. I'd like to see that '68 T/A; pretty rare, since they came out in '69!
