  1. A baby blue leisure suit was the uniform of choice if you were looking to pick up on the ladies!!! Western cut pants, a 2" cowboy belt, a flowery shirt with a huge collar splayed out, and some platform shoes.

    Ladies, the line starts HERE..............

My buddie in high school made his own shackles in metal shop for his nova, they where so long he had to brace them in the middle. car had a big hood scoop and a stock 307 2 barrel!

  6. Gee not a lot different than the "gassers" that we see today.

I remember seeing cars with long shackles and the ends of the springs bent because of them.

They used to make spindles that were the opposite of dropped spindles, I don't recall who made them. does anyone recall them?

Anyone notice the lack of stock steel rims? Nobody kept the skinny factory steelies on muscle cars back then, unlike today. ;)

I gotta go fire up some Steppenwolf.

  9. Ha I remember when Sid the thief got hooked up with this older married chick. He went right out and got himself a baby blue western cut leisure suit for going out with her in.

Dumb as a post small town, dating a married chick, and making sure that everyone see you.

I knew this guy that had a GTO all jacked up in the rear to clear the big mickeys on craigers. He was dealing a little to suppliment his income. He paid a sign painter to letter his back glass, it said, "Man Have I Got a Deal For You."

Nothing like attracting attention to yourself.

I used to have a bumper sticker that said "RUN ME!" Yea, I got pulled over alot.

  11. I used to get opulled over a lot myself but I think it was the cut of my cloths or the length of my hair. Well riding a chop through the south probably didn't help a thing either. They used to say that there was one place you never wanted to be if you were a long hair, that was jackson mississippi on a Saturday night, they were absolutely correct.

A mate of mine here in New Zealand put some super-long shackles on the rear of his '56 Customline.

They were so long that in the rain one when he spun-out he got stuck, going nowhere!

His front wheels out on the road edge on one side of the road-side ditch, rear shackles dug into the dirt on the other side of the ditch - and the rear wheels haning in mid-air over the ditch!!!!

And later when he ran low in oil he screwed the bottom end of the old 272 cos due to the rake waht oil that was there oil ended up at the front end of the pan so no oil was around the pick-up at the rear:eek:.

    Err...too late here!

  22. Kiwi Kevs pic of the Ford with the long shackles reminds me of an artical in a 70s New Zealand Hot Rod Magazine, of a cartoon drawing and hardcase story.
Anyone remember that artical? If you had read it, you will remember it. (im to lazy to go dig through them for it, but it fits the topic well, and was funny at the time.
At 45, i was to young to be hot rodding in the 70s, but i was reading any hot rod mag i could get my hands on.
I remember a local surfer had a mark two Zepher, that was lace painted and jacked in the rear.

Timonium 1974...what a rod run looked like back then.

    Pictures are Lothiandon1940's.

  25. Mrs 'Beaner still does it. Of course she has gone up about 4 cup sizes and isn't as perky as she used to be.

Hippy chicks, Maaaan I really liked hippy chicks, until about '76 or so. I had this old buick wagon that I got for 25 bucks. It was the buick that wouldn't die. I picked up this hippy chick hitch hikeing. You could still hitch hike back then. She took her jacket off and was wearing a tank top and I remember thinking "Wow, am I lucky or what." Then I looked over at her and she had all this hair, like in more hair sticking out from her pits than I had on my head. BBBBBBBwha:eek:

Someone said something about not bringing the '70s back and although some of you fellas have posted some pretty nice pics of some pretty nice rides I agree. It was the beginning of the end for hot roddding.

I am really glad that you younger fellas have revived traditional rodding. Some of us older fellas would have picked it up because we never really wanted it to die anyway, but it is you younger fellas that have really made it happen. With out you we would just be a bunch of relics, old farts trying trying to recover from a mid-life crisis.

Dont fear the fur Beaner, dont fear the fur.:p

  29. Man, that brings back some memories. If you were able to score a pair of 15x8 'Vette rallys, they were the hot ticket. What was even cooler was if you had a set of the '67-only disc brake caps (aka "flat caps"). I had a set, and I used to pull them off EVERY time I stopped and parked the car. Those things would get stolen in a hot second.

Back then, I put rallys on nearly everything I owned.
