    Never forget!.... ;)

  2. A friend bought a new 77 or so Z-28 off the showroom floor. As his wife is in the sales office doing the paperwook with the salesman my friend is in the showroom peeling ALL the graffix off of the Z. j The only thing that said z-28 when he was done was the horn button and wheel centers> .... funnier than hell!

Note the "rolled eyes". Some of us felt that when they started putting juice cams in them, they stopped being Z-28s...

I can't find my old Zippo, so I will fire up my old 7-UP Flicker Light in honor of the 70's.

Was the place in your picture right down by the water in North Seattle?

I grew up in Bothell in the 80's and a friends father who lived down the street grew up in Edmonds in the 60's. He was a gear head mentor for me (Tri5 chevy's and Mopars were his thing). He once told me of a place along the sound in North Seattle where people would gather for street races. Some crazy hot cars raced there and even a dragster rolled of a trailer to make a pass or two one night. I can't for the life of me remember the name of the area.

  10. Think of it!

    You've come full circle! :D

I was too late to be there (born in '74) but I do remember a lot of holdouts in Southern California's South Bay area growing up in the early to mid 80s when my young mind was being molded by these cars... I remember a mean (to an 8-year-old kid) black 59 Ranchero jacked up with slots on my street in North Torrance that I was completely in love with.

  13. Double knit trousers. Somewhere I have a pic of the missus me and our brand new baby girl. I am wearing a pair of double knit bell bottoms that the wife found at a thrift shop.

crazy times, we had a brand new baby girl, a slick 56 Effi and a harley in a basket. But I couldn't afford a new pair of pants. Funny I don't have a pick from '72 other than that pic of me in those pants with the prettiest girl in the school and my baby girl.

I have often said that I wouldn't go back but I would go back to that day any time. I was on top of the world.

Gotta get out the door but I'll look for the pic this evening.

Ya know for an off topic lame assed thread this has turned out pretty good. I guess a lot of us had a pretty good time during the dark ages of the hobby.

  14. Guy I know tells about flat towing home rotty 5-6-7 Chevies he'd buy for $5-$25 out of junkyards, depending on how decent or complete they were. Back then a lot of these guys only scrapped out at death, if they got rezoned off the land, or they needed to pay a bill.

Well, since this thread isn't locked yet, I'll share two more of my parents' '70s rides:

    Mom's '74 Javelin

    The Mustang had a 351C and the Javelin had a 258 I-6. Mom has a '73 Javelin now with a cammed up 360 V8. :D

Hey, I was driving my Avatar and street racing.

  17. Between '70 and '72 I'll bet the missus and I chain towed several tons of 25-30 dollar '62-'64 Impalas and biscains. It seemed that I almost always had 283 or a 327 that I drug out of someone's old hooptie in favor of a bigger mill and they left the old engine with me. That was how we made ends meet back then.

I remember pulling a 302 4V engine out of a mustang from a fellas car once to swap for a warmed over 351C. That ended up in a maveric that left the yard with a set of wide mickys on cragers. A 250 dollar car and the rent was paid for the next couple of months. Wre called the maveric "The Frog" because of the way the wheels stuck out. If I recall the fella with the maveric body wanted 25 dollars for it and the missus told him all we had was 20. I still don't know where she came up with 20 bucks, I was going to trade the fella the mickys for the body.

1974 Sweet looking 57 Chevy 2 dr hardtop metalic green, 327 3 spd floor shift,. tall shackles. The owner was at the local car wash making a u turn and his upper ball joint let go. Walked to my house, and offered it to me for 35 dollars. I told him I didn't want the P.O.S. That's where 2 fools met.
Also about the same time, My exgirlfriends new boyfriend wanted to race me in my baby shit green Javelin, to show me up. He had a 64 Falcon Sprint he'd put a 390 4sp in. When I launched I could tell there was something wrong, but I still beat him about a 1/2 a fender length. He wanted to race again but I wouldn't. After he left I poped my trunk to find that both the rear airshocks went through the trunk.

I didn't start driving till the mid 80s, about the time that the left overs from the 70s made their way to our small rural Kentucky town. As much as I love 50s and 60s customs, I'd rock a V8 vega or pinto proudly.

I graduated in 1976, and I have to say that it seems like it wasn't that long ago when we were drag racing, smoking dope, skipping school and talking about cars. Time truly speeds up as you get older.

    Jimi Hendrix - LOUD
American flag on the back of your levi jacket
Schwinn stingray as daily transporation (mostly on the rear wheel)
    Little chocolate donuts everyday
Getting "licks" for punishment by the vice principle
Cutting school, getting caught and having to paint the house as punishment.
    Dirt bikes
    Hair

I always wanted one of those, still cool.

  28. Chain pulling was definatley old school. Tow bars were few and far between and who the hell had a trailer? For some reason I always ended up jockeying the "dead" car .... drag the brakes and pay attention .... yee-haw!
