Looked around the local Jo Ann fabrics today and only found one that looked similar to a 50s car material that was thick enough that glue would not penetrate it,only have 315 pages on the SMS website to look through.

Good luck getting anything from SMS. I have heard stories of customers waiting years to get stuff.

If they say it`ll take a month, plan on two. Just double the amount of time they tell you. My buddy ordered some matarial. They told him a year. They had to produce it. My buddy waited 23 months. No material. I told him to hop on a plane and see them in person. He thought about it. So he called them and said he was gonna sick the credit card company for not shipping. He had it a month later. They bill you when you order it.

I got some material for the sunliner from SMS and had it the next week,I think there is a place in Michigan that sells vintage material too and need to find them. I have a feeling it will take me a long time to figure out just what cloth I would like so I might just make it all vinyl like that truck.

I see now it has cloth inserts,it looked all vinyl at first glance but I still might go all vinyl since I have not found a cloth that really stands out to me. Those small pictures on the SMS website make it hard to decide so I really need to look at cars with original interiors.

Since this thread is more or less about what is and isn't in style, where do Mexican blanket seat covers come in these days? Personally I still like the look of Mexican blanket seat covers, but my sense of acceptable current style is probably questionable. Then again, I'm 65 years old so I don't have to really care about style, do I?

I would like to use Mexican blanket material in the inserts but I have been told they will not take to being cut up and sewn and will come apart.

Glue them to 1/2 inch foam with the scrim on the back side. Works well. It really adds strength to the material. I had a buddy who bought some light weight CARS(the movie) fabric at JoAnns and had a backing put on. Sent it to Chicago or somewhere. I did the inserts in his seats and door panels. The seats,I used 1/2 inch and the door panels- I used 1/4 inch foam. I even covered his kids car seat to match. A restaurant here in town did the same thing on there booth backs.

I have noticed a lot of fabric inserts match Tartans for kilts. I think the most popular was the Royal Stewart.

The shop I started at 32 years ago had a bunch of sample books and I asked about them a few years ago when I was first thinking about getting rid of the tweed and he said most went out of business and he mainly deals with the same supplier that the shop I work at deals with. The one shop I was thinking about does alot of furniture and has alot of sample books so I sent him a message on Facebook asking if he is going to be at the shop late any time soon.
