Not considering doing this to my vehicle, but curious as to what it was. A few years ago a 60's Comet rolled past and let out the loudest repetetive popping/crackling sound I've ever heard. Sounded like something with a lot of ampereage arcing possibly. He laughed, scared the shit out of me and drove away. Anyway a buddy of mine asked me if i'd ever figured out what it was tonight and I had to tell him no. Curious if anybody knows?

Probably had twice pipes and he threw it into a lower gear and let it back down. 6 cylinders with a split manifold would rattle your widows!

I use to call it backrapping. I had a 383 magnum 69 roadrunner with a 4spd that would break windows LOL with the stock blown out exhausts when you would wind it up in 1st and back off of it..:D

  10. He had a Y-block with glasspacks in it! Wind it up to 4500 in first gear and let off.Sounds wicked.
But I doubt that he actually did.

Come to think of it this post has brought back a lost memory, I used to have a '62 FI Corvette that I would turn the key off for a second and when turned back on it would sound like a grenade went off and lite up the sky. The longer you left the key off the bigger the bang. That was in the '70z thanks for the memories!

my buddy in High school had a very nice "formerly original" 55 Chevy with a nice silver laquer paint job. had a (?) 327 with 265 exhaust manifolds and what had to be inch 1 3/4 inch pipes out the back with glasspacks. it sounded pretty cool back then.

I have to agree, a split manifold on a six will scare old ladies, especially if it has straight pipes.:D

This sounded like a machine gun firing. Not a normal vehicle sound. Like he had added something and flipped a switch to do it. If we don't know we don't know, I was just curious. No biggie

  15. He could have had a rev limiter tied into an MSD box and he was flooring it. I knew a guy in California that loved to do that in his 11 second VW.

I did this a few times one day in 1957 with my father's Star Chief... until the muffler exploded!

  17. That would be the easy way to do soemthing along those lines.
A kid I went ot highschool with was a kind of a geek. he was doing the whole electronic thing when transistor radios were nall the vogue.

Anyway long story short he rigged up a switch and a little circuite board on the ignition in his '57 Ambasidor that would make it have a distinct miss. Used to do it to get races with strangers or out in the parking lot when everyone had had too much to drink or???
