A grey '50 DeSoto 4 door in Nov. of '50..... I have a pic somewhere but no scanner. After that, we had a tu-tone blue '52 DeSoto that I actually remember. My dad was in the midst of his "Mopar years" until '62 when he came home to our family's make, Ford, bought a '62 Galaxie 500XL and stayed there til he died.

I am not em bare assed to admit I am 45. As a matter of fact I am proud that I have out lived what my father said I would live (or when he said he would kill me) by a factor of over 2. It sure beats the hell out of the alternative. BTW, my first ride was in my fathers 53 Merc Monterrey sport coupe (dads description) that had a 312 y block with 3 2s, bored and stroked with a full race cam (again, dad's description) which ended up as a roundy-round car.

  3. Well My dad had a '59 bel air when I was born, so that was probably what I was brought home in, but it was too small to room the whole family so he ordered a '61 Impala Nomad Red 'n White and got it in Oct '60. We had it till my dad's bussinis went bankrupt in '70 :(

  4. Probably the 60 bug or early 60's Impala, lovely Oxnard, CA, 1966. Maybe I'll ask and look for pics.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

    Holy Cow!
After reading all of the above posts I don't recollect anyone mentioning their first ride as being a Model 'A'. Mom and Dad came home to the back woods Highlands of Southern Ontario Canada back in 1946 with me bundled up in the back seat.
Later I recall Dads 39 Chev more-door out of which I exited at a great rate of knots , finding out personally the hard way why they called the rear doors 'suicide doors'!!
I was about 5 yrs old and dad put me in the back seat for a trip down a country road to the local shops, luckily Dad didnt drive too fast and I must have been standing on the back floor looking out the window holding on to the door handle, turned the door handle which popped open into the wind and dragged me straight out of the car. As I said it was a backroad with a lovely thick green grass verge. I think I only got a cut knee and some skin off here and there.
Shortly after Dad brought home a lovely 2 door coupe Chev, cant imagine why he bought that!??

Rode home in a 1969 Chevelle Malibu 2 door. 307/auto. Baby Moons. Marina Blue.

Pothead kids ran it into a telephone pole after Dad sold it in '78. The roof had the imprint of the pole in it.

    Wish I had it now.

Don't know the fate of the "kids".

    Hello all,
I am new to the forum, but an avid hotrod enthusiast since born. I rode home from the hospital in a 69 roadrunner, 426 max wedge and 4-speed.

My dad was a fan of the british cars if not entirely a 'ford man'. You hear the stories of the new soon-to-be-father having to trade in a coupe for a stationwagon. My dad traded his MG like this not for a stationwagon, but a piss yellow volkswagen. He used to blame me for it all the time-jokingly of course. Gee...the burden we put on our parents!

It was 1944 and the war was on. I was almost 3. You couldn't buy a car locally so my Dad went to Detroit and picked up a worn out old Chrysler with no heater. Looking back now it had to be a late 30s model - possibly 1937. I still remember how cold we were on a 500 mile trip to visit relatives for Christmas. Where he got the gas rations I don't know. Gas was 11 cents a gallon. Damn! Am I that old?

It was Jan. 1966. I think it was probably a 63 Corvette w/327. But The first car i remember riding around in was a 36 3wcpe that had a 440 with a six pack.

It's hard to narrow down. My dad always had a Model A around that he drove but we also had a 49 Plymouth around the time I was born (50) and I suspect it may have been that car. The Plymouth was his first new car so I am sure I probably came home from the hospital in it instead of his 30 tudor.

Another good thread would be the first car you ever drove solo. Mine was a 53 Chevy I bought when I was 13 and drove it home. My dad took and drove it for his work vehicle for about 3 or 4 years. Boy those were the days!!!!

My dad always had a Model A around as his daily driver when I was growing up. When I was born in 1950 he had a 30 tudor and his first brand new car a 49 4 door Plymouth. I probably came home from the hospital in the 49 would be my guess.

Another good topic would be what was the first car you drove solo. Mine was a 53 Chevy six stick that I bought when I was 13. Drove that thing home bucking & jerking all the way. My dad took it and drove it to work for the next three or four years. Boy those were the days.

I was brought home from the hospital in 1975 in a 1963 Dodge Dart with a slant six. My folks called it the "White Knight".

  20. I was 4 when my dad bought a Model A Victoria. It was just after WWII ended. He had no car during the war when I was born.

I still remember thinking how HUGE that car was. :D

The first car I remember riding in was my Dad's '59 Catalina 4 door. It was red/white and had the 389 and pancake roof.

'37 Ford slant back tudoor. January 1949. Roads were blocked with snow so Dad had to take down the fence between our place and the neighbors and go across the field to get out to get me and Mom from the hospital.

First car I remember being impressed with was my uncle Bob's 55 two door post. I was about 5 at the time. Blue and white with Olds caps.

Not the car I came home from the hospital in, but it's certainly the car Dad drove me in for my first day of Kindergarten. He drove the Roadster almost every day in the warm weather, but since it was Ohio, it lived in the barn all winter. I remember watching the other kids pull up in regular cars and thinking they were incredibly weird. If you look closely inside there, you can see me standing up next to Pop.

I don't know exactly how I got home from the hospital (my Dad was in the car business, so he drove a lot of cars), but I do vividly recall a car my mom had only a few years later. It was a '36 Packard four-door. My dad called it a "six wheeler" since it had sidemount spares. I can still see the back of the front seat with the grab cord running across it. I'm sure it had mohair trim. It was replaced by a more prosaic Ford, but I think Dad probably made a profit on the old car...... after all, that is how it's done in the car biz.

For me, it woulda been my Mom's black 64 Nova SS on the way home from the hospital. Next up, most likely my Dad's 64 Triumph Spitfire.
