Man, that one really got me too! I was fifteen when this issue came out, and I got it while cutting class at school. I would have to put this issue's cover in my top five overall...
I did think of another issue that got me - I believe it's the November '73 Rod & Custom. Anybody else remember the track roadster special with the Ron Weeks restored Kraft red car sliding across the cover?! I wish my scanner was cooperating right now...

  2. I saw this when I was seven years old and it stuck with me for 50  years, until my own coupe was finally on the road..

I'm a hot rod guy so this would be my favorite cover. 2 of my favorite cars of all time.

A hot rod on the cover of Hot Rod was a nice change in 1978. That car made a lot people take a long hard look at their resto rod. The Nov. '73 Rod and Custom chopped top issue fired me up the most.

The issue with Dean Lowe an his truck on it hung with me since the day I pulled it out of the mailbox . Still have it out in the stash. I instantly remembered that cover when I saw his name on here the first week I was on the board.
I've been accumulating rod magazines since the late 50's and have way too many to have a real favorite.

I don't have the magazine anymore but it was the Nov. '57 issue of Hot Rod. Not so much the cover but that issue opened my 12 year old eyes to Bonneville. It only took me 50 years to get there. That issue sealed my fate.

The only issue I don't have. I actually am partial to issue #5 since my truck is in it.

I think it was the cover of Car Craft from around 1970 it was an overhead shot of Kansas John Wiebes top fuel car and it had a blue cast to the picture. For a kid from Kansas to see a Kansas boy on the cover was to cool. I got to met Mr. Wiebe at the Leadsled last year what a nice man!

I was going to look for this exact cover! Both cars define hot rod for me.
