back about 15 years ago I got what I consider my first piece of speed equipment. I had gone to buddy of my fathers house and pulled the motor out of a 54 olds 98 he had on his property. took the hydro off of it and traded it even for an early ford trans adapter. next piece was a weiand tripower intake for the motor and then a set of hurst front mounts for it.

  2. I was just reading the posts, and thought what the heck are golden goose mufflers !---now I know the rest of the story.....

  3. A piece of leather belt looped around the front hub and fastened together with a red reflector on my 24" J.C. Higgins bike to keep the hub clean and shiny.

I made a cold air intake out of a McDonald's cup and some vacuum cleaner hose. It worked! ;)

  8. Back about '72 a guy took McDonald's Drive-up trash can cover, the one with th big snout and flapper door, and popped riveted to the hood of his 170 ci Falcon. He had a lawn mower throttle cable hooked to it to make the flapper open and closed.

I had a '69 Plymouth Valiant with skinny little tires. I bought a set of Mopar Rally Wheels, trim rings, center caps and Polyglas GT RWL tires. I had every yahoo on Gratiot Ave challenging me to a race with my little slant six/auto that could only do the quarter in 19 seconds. I guess no one noticed the little single exhaust...

It wasn't fast, but I guess it looked fast

  15. Technically, it was the gutted muffler on my Cushman Eagle, but my first real speed equipment all came from the same engine. I bought a flathead with a cracked block around 1960, and salvaged the magneto, Fenton heads, Almquist two deuce intake, unknown 3/4 cam, and aluminum flywheel. This engine came out of a dirt tracker, and I sold it all to my friend Bobby. He built an engine with all the parts except the cam, dropped it in a '48 Ford Sedan, and when the Air Force stationed him in Denver, he drove the car from Mississippi to Colorado and back a number of times.

A Hurst shifter for my long gone 1967 Mustang. Bought it from Miller's Auto Supply in Norfolk, VA. Miller's is also long gone.

Mine was a B&M Unimatic shifter for my C6. I bought it new directly from the big ol' Summit store in Ohio when I went up there to visit my sister. I had no idea how close they were to her place until right when I drove by. I haven't used it yet but I will soon!

High performance silver pickups, springs, brushes, armature, magnets, gears and a pair of AJ's silicone slicks from Auto World for one of my Aurora HO slot cars.

My first piece of speed equipment for a real car was an Offy dual Q-Jet intake for a SBC. Why I don't know, I didn't even have a car.

A used Dixco Don Garlits tach that quit working soon after I installed it and ended up getting tossed. Kind of wish I hung on to it seeing what stupid money they are going for nowadays.

One of those cast finned aluminum 4 hole injector scoops that fit a 4 barrel carb. I was 13, walking home from school and saw it at the curb in the garbage. Sold it years later at a swap meet.
