this one on my favorite questions to ask what was your first car how did you get it ? how much did it cost? mine was a 67 ford falcon with a 289 in it , we got it when My cousin went off to trade school so my aunt and uncle bought him a different car , they offered to sell me the car for 50 dollars this was in 1985 I was 15 and BROKE so my Dad fronted the money and said I could work it off , well Driving it home was 30 miles or so and about 5 miles into the trip the rear coil spring on the passenger side came through the trunk so out came the bumper jack and we jacked it up and placed a piece of powerline pole that was laying along the road fit just perfect , after that My Dad was pissed to say the least so he kept driving home and we made it my dad made me mow the yard all summer and till and weed the garden and Paint the front of the Barn to work off the 50 dollars and finaly my Mom put a stop to the work as she said my dad would work me to death for that 50 dollar car ((( hell I did not mind because every night I got to set in that car with the radio on and pretend to drive )))

  3. 1952 Plymouth Cranbrook four door sedan. Bought it when I was 12 for just ten bucks! I drove it home, too - I lived in a small town and drove it four miles.

Not HAMB friendly, but I got my first car a couple of years ago at age 16. It was a 1979 Mercury Cougar XR-7, 351w FMX trans, A/C, AM/FM, Power Seat, Corner lights, Alloy Wheels, and I just got a new Vinyl Top for it.

It was bought for my dad brand new off the dealership lot in 1979 for his first car. His grandad bought it for him. It sat in the garage for 10 years, because of a rusty gas tank and we fixed it up a couple of years ago for me to drive. There sure as hell isn't another one around for a few counties seen on the road every day.

First car was a 1976 Ford Gran Torino 4 dr with a 351W. Bought it from a woman who's mom had died and it was her car. Really was the car that a little old lady drove to town once a week. Had the oil changed every 4 months religiously. Fund reciepts where there was only 70 miles between some oil changes. Payed $1,050 for it, drove it like hell for 6 years and sold it for $1,000.

I guess you could say I officially became a car nut around the age of 7. My parents had told me I could have any kind of car I wanted....as long as I paid for it. Well, got a paper route at 12 and saved most of my money for 3 years. While I was 15 before I even had my learners permit, I bought my first car. 1969 GTO rebuilt 400, 4 speed, 3.55 POSI, Rally II wheels.
Before my 16th birthday, I had sold the entire front end assembly and installed a fiberglass tilt front end ( that I bought on my 15th birthday), sold the 4 speed and had a thm 400 built and installed, added a set of headers and a crane cam. Pretty good for a 15 year old. It was not reliable as I had a LOT to learn but, I stated with it and still own the car. That was 1975.

It was a 56 chevy 4 door wagon. I got it for free, But they never gave me a title and had to junk it. I did take parts off of it for a 56 chevy 4 door sedan that I bought for $15.00. never drove it either. I did take the engine and trans from it, and put it in a 57 2 door sedan. that I bought for $75.00. And a year later I turned 16 and finally got to drive it...John

1950 Ford 2 Door...........I was 14 and it was in 1958. I had been hanging around this body shop for a couple of years, after school and on saturdays......and I bought the Ford from them for $40.00. It was hit in the left side........took out the door and quarter panel. So, with their encouragement, i replaced the door and spliced in a quarter. They let me have any leftover paint I wanted to mix something, and said if I prepped the car, they'd paint it after work some evening. Great experience......brings back very fond memories.

1959 alfa spider veloce. It was blown up and cost $500.00. My dads buddy helped me rebuild the motor, it was a cool little sports car. I had a paper route from the time I was 10 so I used the money I saved to buy it. I got all the chicks. Well maybe in my head, But I did have a lot of fun driving it and running at the auto cross in Pleasanton.

  19. 1967 Fairlane Fordor...my parents bought it for me and had it towed to the house the day before my 16th birthday. That morning it was sitting in the driveway and was the biggest piece of $hit...but hey, they paid $120 and it was MINE. Only problem was that it did not run...so my Dad said I could get my license when it was running. The next day, after I ended up installing new freeze-out plugs (the owner thought he had cracked the block!), that lil' 200 was purring like a kitten. Our church just had new carpet installed so I got our priest to let me have a 10' square of carpet. I'm convinced to this day that the 'holy' carpet kept me alive as a teenager. I don't have the car anymore....but I still have the blown out freeze out plug that got me my license!:D Traded that up for another Fordor Fairlane '64 - all original lil' old lady special (and in MUCH better shape!) that got me through college.

When I was 13 one of my uncles bought a '35 Ford 5W from a widow for $35. He drove it for a week and realized it wouldn't be a reliable car he sold it to me for $17.50. I'd cut grass and build walls for my neighbors and that's what I had saved. I kept it at my Grandmothers and had access to all my Grandpa's tools and chainfalls. My good friend and I totally disassembled the old Ford and put it back together. Thankfully we didn't drop the body on ourselves when we hoisted it off. We got it back together and I sold it a couple of years later for $50. and bought another car. Learned a lot and didn't lose any fingers. My friend Vic and I still build old Fords and blame my uncle for the sickness. Wouldn't trade the experience for anything. The FOGGER

My first one was a 1935 Nash Lafayette sedan. My grand dad gave it to me after working all summer in the fields farming. This all happened in 1959 , I was 15 and in second heaven. He farmed 90 acres and it had a road all the way around it not to mention the cross roads. The first year I had it I must have put a couple of thous miles driving the field roads. I kept it through high school and traded it for a 33 Ford 3 window coup which I kept and drove for the next 20 years.

'40 Ford coupe in 1954. Washed dishes in a local Mex. food place to save the money, all $250. Put on a set of Sharp heads and manifold, Fenton headers. The heads and headers made a big difference! Flopped the shift lever for better speed shifting. Installed a dropped axle. "Borrowed" 2- 5.50's for the front from a couple of VW trunks and bought 2- 8.20's for the rear. Got my "learner's permit' and had to cruise Speedway Blvd and stop in the "Polar Bar" Drive-inn with my Dad riding shotgun. Both of us couldn't wait for me to get my license 6 months later! Flattop/DA haircut, gray suede jacket, white t-shirt, Levi's and engineering boots. Slouched in the seat of course. If you gave me an option of a few more days ahead or a few back then..I'd most likely take the back then one's. HAPPY NEW YEAR GUYS AND GALS!! KEEP THE TORCH LIT!!

Bought a 55 Olds more door for $25 . It was a 3 speed stick. Got it cheap cuz it had a flat on left rear and he couldn't get the lug nuts loose. was he ever PO'd when he realized that they were left hand threads. I changed the tire, and drove it home. I was 15 at the time.

1963 Chevrolet Impala Sport Coupe for High School graduation from my Sister and her fiance' (now husband). It had been sitting in a horse pasture for 2 years, the 283 was dead, all 4 bald tires were flat and the rims were sunk in the ground. It was full of trash and mice and the exhaust was rotted off , it was rusty and had bondo in it but it was a '63 Impala Sport Coupe. As far as I was concerned it might as well have been a new Vette! I used my graduation money to buy a used 327 and my folks bought new exhaust, tires and rear springs and shocks for me. I spent much of my summer getting it back on the road. The day after I had it all back together my Dad backed into the LF fender and within a week the 327 started smoking so bad smoke came up the steering column and I couldn't even see where I was going. I bought a '64 Sport Coupe and transferred all the new parts to it and then Dad had the '63 hauled off. :(

1958 Ford Ranch Wagon - bought it from my Aunt for $10 when I was in junior high.
When I went to high school I took Auto Shop and worked on it all the time, and left it outside the shop because I didn't have my drivers license yet. When some jocks started smoking dope in it after games I took it home. My senior year I sold it to a junkyard for more than I had in it after one of Mom's co-workers gave me a '59 Galaxie 4 door for free because it didn't run. Got it running and drove it for a couple years, and sold it to a guy who was restoring his '59 Galaxie. He ended up using his for parts, and restored mine instead. Both were fun cars.

I saved up money working at my Dad's business as a carpet installer while in high school. The day after graduation in June 1965 I bought a '59 Ford Galaxie off a car lot for $595. It was a 292 Y-block with a stick. That summer I added Traction-Master bars, dual exhaust with cutouts, and a 4-barrel intake/carb off a 312. My old Ford held its own street racing against a lot of 283 Chevys. I kept the '59 six months and traded it in on a '63 Galaxie 500 boxtop with a 406.

    1980, 16 years old. 70 Buick GS 455 Stage 1,
$900. Drove it while I looked for a chevelle or camaro to have a "fast car". Then I started racing the chevelles and camaros at school and realized I didn't need to look anymore. Didn't know what I had till then. 3 motors, 4 trannies and couple rear ends by the time I was in college. Boy was I hard on that car. Wish I had another one.
