1963 Mercury Comet 4 door 6 cyl. 3 speed on the tree for $350, wanted a 65 GTO but bought what my funds allowed.
My first car was a 1947 Chrysler Windsor 4 dr. that my brother gave me because he owed me $20 bucks. It looked exactly like this one!
POS 70 Maverick one broken torsion bar would turn hard left if I let go of the wheel. Burned more oil and leaked more trans fluid than it burned in gas...what a mess. I traded up to a 72 Lesabre and began my love of Buicks.
A 1968 Plymouth Fury III , complete with 383 commando and a 727 tourqueflite trans....bought it for $100.00 cuz the tranny was slipping , piss gold two-door with a turd brown top , man , that thing would pass anything but a gas station ! wish I still had it , but , I traded it for a 1965 Chevelle Malibu SS..dont guess that was too bad of a trade in 1986...but dont have it either...lol
a 64 Thunderbird that my dad owned. then i bought a 1964 1/2 Mustang that had a 65 289 Hipo 4 speed. My brother crash that. Then my dad gave me his 1935 Ford pickup with a 49 Olds V8 3 speed which was going to be my brothers. had a lot of fund with that one.
My first car was a 57 chevy-210-2 dr sdn-6/auto-one owner, only problem I had was the battery....ran it for 2 years...sold it when I went with Uncle Sam....nice clean car....wish I had it today.....stan
A 1962 Farlaine Sport Coupe. 6 in a row, three on the tree. I had that bomb for about a year. I was on my way home from a church social, when a drunken telephone pole wandered in front of me. Thats my story, and I'm sticking too it.
First car I could drive or the one that ran was an ex police 68 fury II slick seat covers 383 8 of us cruising in all of us around in it 15 years old burning f78 14 inch tires off !!the engine in this car later went into a old junk 250$ road runner I sold to buy a 396 nova !!
My first car was a 55 four door Buick. Paid $100 dollars for it, drove it 82,000 miles and traded on a 57 Chevy Wagon, got $75 trade in. Probably the best miles per buck in my life. It was yellow with a green top so i pulled in the garage, taped it off and painted it black. Looked great till you opened the doors and the jambs were still yellow!!! Still that way when I traded it in. Slightly OT but a good first car story anyway. My dad lived to be 105, he told of his first car being a 23 Ford T that he traded a team of horses for. He got the car and $250 buck for the horses!! said the horses wern't much of a team anyway.
1965 Rambler Classic (V8/auto). Was a "family car", but the first I really got to take out and drive around.
It was a channeled Deuce Roadster with a 265 SBC hooked up to a 39 trans and a 40 rear end,... I emptied out my savings and had to work all summer at a gas station (handing over my checks to the guy every Friday) when I finished paying him the $275.00 it was all mine,..... my folks hit the roof !
1953 Ford Victoria 2 door w/239 flathead v8. Paid $75 for it in 1967. Ended up taking the motor out & putting it in a 1948 Ford Coupe I paid $25 for in 1969. Wish I still had borh cars!
65 GP coupe, real wood dash and console overlay, 421/turbo 400, 8 lug wheels, dual exhaust, factory chrome air cleaner and valve covers. Had a vacuum gauge on the console, but always kept it pegged at 120 on the highways, was a boat, but could lay some rubber...
1967 Mercury Caliente two door hard top. Power nothing. Little 289 rocked. I could peg it past 120... ah the memories.
HOLY SHIT !!!!! man , I wished I were older sometimes, $20.00 for that , add about 3 zeros to that now.....
1969 Olds 442. Silver with black vinyl top and black hood stripes. Bought it from a guy who unfortunately was diagnosed with cancer. He was selling because he wanted to buy his wife a cheaper car to operate after he was gone. I gave $1050 for it and drove it 2 years of High School and 2 years of college before I sold it to a guy for $1500. Never got beat in the 40 MPH punch. Would love to have that car back. 48 Poncho
A Sunbeam Alpine with an engine set up by legend Jim Hall. This was before I was old enough to drive legally (1970). We sold it when we moved to the beach and I got a motorcycle when I got a permit to drive, a Honda CB160. First legal car - a beat up Triumph Spitfire as a High School graduation present.
I learned to drive (in '71) in grandma's '51 Pontiac. My first car was a '62 Impala wagon. My friends thought I was nuts for buying that. Pick up my girlfriend, drop the back seat, toss a blanket and a couple pillows back there. They changed their minds rather quickly. "have fun in the back seat of that Camaro Jeff!" I'd say as I drove off in my mobile motel room. On the weekend, I always had a car full of my friends and girls. That was a 9 passenger wagon. Get that many highschoolers together back then and fun will ensue.
'81 civic...my Dad wouldn't let me have V-8 power. Does it help my reputation to mention that I killed it by driving it into the rear end of a Ford Truck?
My first car was a '51 studebaker half-ton pickup. My grandpa bought it in '60 or '61 when he was a mechanic at the local dodge dealer. My grandma drove it to work for a few years, and my uncle drove it when he was in highschool. I got it in '93, and still have it. I can't sell it; it's been in the family longer than I have!
1964 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88. Me and my highschool girlfriend damned near wore the back seat out. I eventually put it into a power pole one rainy day.
