that would be in 1962-66.........1st car was a 54 Ford 2 door, nosed, decked, shaved, baby moons borrowed from a friend and a wopping 6 banger 3 speed; graduated to a 55 chev (some would call shoebox, but I ain't goin there), with a 265 power pac; enlisted in the Navy and traded the car for a poodle for my true love whom left me for a guy with a 68 goat convert while I was overseas. Upon my return, I promptly baught a 68 Goat convert.......... and have never looked back... until now
55 Chev BelAir 2 dr hardtop with 327/ 365, Duntov 30-30 cam, headers & Cherry Bomb mufflers, Z/28 intake, Holley 780, Lakewood traction bars, Cragar S/S front wheels and chrome reverse rears, Polyglas GT tires. Ran 13.32 at 103 mph back then on street tires with open headers and cranked up timing. Racing my HS buds was the most fun I've ever had! Still have time slips. My 55 was painted a Cadillac color called Saffire Blue Firemist metallic... with white "cobwebbing" accents and some "lace" highlights. When I first got it, the inside wheel wells and drum brakes were painted WHITE. I changed them to black semi right away. Was 17 yrs old when I blew out the rear end at the drags right after graduating from HS. Every dollar went into that car, check-to-check, I had my list of speed parts I needed. Worked 40 hrs/wk my Jr and Sr yrs in HS just to be able to buy that car. Fun times. Addicted at an early age...
Senior year in 64 - started with a 52 Ford, flathead, 3 speed, good solid car. It caught fire and burnt pretty bad. Found a 53 Ford customline with no suspension at a local junk yard. Had a great body (baby blue) and interior, took drivetrain from 52 and installed in the 53, after a little hop up on the flathead, that thing would fry the old tires like crazy. It had red wheels, wide whites and no caps. Traded it in on a 55 Chevy Bel Air post after graduation, only Ford I ever owned. Been nothing but Chevy's since.
My first ride in high school was a '61 MG Midget (guess that's why I do what I do now) - fun little car (when it ran) , was a hit with the chicks ... guess it was the "cute little car" theory My senior year , I got a '68 ElCamino SS . It had a stock 327 dropped in when I got it , but eventually was upped to a hot 350 (383-overbore , balanced , etc) ... ran like stink . I sold it several years later for way too cheap - one of my regret sales . Here are a few (bad) pics . Nevermind the wheels ... it was the 80's , lol !!! I've had a couple-dozen cars since then ...
I had a few rides... 67 olds cutl*** 4 door hard top with a straight 6 and I also bought a 91 caprice and a 98 neon well that was the only time i had a ricer!
70 road Runner - purchased from the original [retired couple] owner. Had whitewalls and hubcaps on it when I got it. Ever done a burnout with studded snow tyres? odd sound...
1955 Chevy 210 post w/ 375hp 396, 4spd, 12 bolt rear from a 69 Chevelle from age 15 to 17. Age 17 1969 Roadrunner 383 4spd. And a few chicks that will remain unnamed.
'72 Maverick w/ the 302. I was the 2nd owner. My uncle p***ed away and I got the car. Used to put it against rich kids w/ stock LS and GT Mustangs. It did pretty well.
55 Bel Air moredoor with a 235/3 spd, Spent the winter of my jumior year in the high school auto shop rebuilding the engine.
1969 Belair for about 6 months until I parked it around a tree then dad encouraged me to purchase his coworkers 1977 Pinto. I hated that car, I tried to kill but it would go with almost no coolant and a couple of times I had to add 3.5 quarts of oil to it. I should have been nicer to that ride it always got me from A to B.It ws the only car for a lot of years I was able to sell after I got done with it.
Had a red '74 T/A with a blown 400, as in threw a rod and blown up before I even got a chance to drive it to school. So, was the bus instead while it sat in the driveway because I couldn't afford to fix it after I spent all my cash buying it. Finally, at the end of my senior year, my uncle found a used totally unknown condition 455 at a going out of bus. auction at a local gas station and got it for $50. I paid a friend of my dads to pop it in for $150 and the baby ran nice for about 4 years until I ripped off the exhaust backing out of a driveway with too high a slope. My grandmother decided it was too much of a death trap to let me fix it and she bought me a nice little used Nissan pickup instead. Kind of a sad ending for the car, but she was right. It was a good move for the time. Man, that car would chew through some gas like nobodies business.
Well, I'm a youngen, and I'm showing it now.. graduated in 2004, in high school I DROVE... '92 mustang LX 4 banger (16yr old) Then a '89 LX mustang GT....which I bent nicely around a tree...then finally....91 LX 5.0 that I did almost all the work to. Bought it with the paint, but redid the interior, put a new T-5 in it, put bigger rear gears and a locker in, (4.10's) some sticky tires, better brakes, about every bolt on available for a 5.0 short of heads, aluminum driveshaft...a whole bunch of other things I can't remember... Still have it...still plan to turbocharge it, lol. But the model A and the streamliner are first.
First Car was a 71' VW Fastback. Ran for 3 months and blew up. Bought it for $250.00 what do you expect. Second car was a 70' Chevelle, pretty stock, except for Cragar rims. Third car 67' Camaro, 327, damn fast, actually got tired of it, and sold it. Stupid mistake. Last car in high school was a 68' El Camino, Centerline 15" x 3" up front, 15" x 8" in back, lowered, stock 305. Fun car/truck. Sold it and went to college. Damn, I miis those days!
Had a '57 Chevy Belair, but unfortunately it was a 4dr sedan! Bought it from my parents, and although I loved having a '57, I hated having too many doors! Actually liked the sedan part!
Thom McCan's penny loafers. In the summer of 68 went to California to find a 57 2-dr wagon. Ended up with a 59 4-dr with a painted 427 emblem on the side rear window. Took it to Tijuana for a tuck-n-roll, Rod.
69 Firebird w/ 350 auto, then moved up to 65 GTO, w/ beefed 389 and 4-speed...sittin' high with Cragars and the funkiest 70's paneled, lace and swirl paint job. Figures it was the only one I don't have a picture of. ****.
