Hmmmm 20 years ago....... I was 16 rolling on 17.
I had a late model Yamaha SR185 bike (went great but the front brake was dodgy) and had just bought (and crashed) a 71 Toyota carolla, on a good day I might have borrowed my brothers 62 Holden :) sad huh !!!
17 years ago after selling the house truck I bought my 62 Holden I still have,10 Years ago I had just bought and landed the Olds.......

Here's mine, from 16 years ago (when I was 16!). My dad helped me build it so now I blame him for this addiction. It's a 1937 Plymouth coupe with 400 smallblock, fenderwell headers, dropped axle up front. I have forgotten many of the details though. All the muscle car guys wanted to race me in high school. I sold it for college money...man what a mistake that was!

I wasn't driving yet, but I was getting my first car ready for paint. It ended up being wavy as hell, but was still my first and my favorite.

I had a cardboard box with a pie plate on each corner - but to me it was a red '57 Chevy convertible with a floor-shift and a hot rod 283. I didn't really know what a 283 was then, but I knew they sang about one in "Built For Speed."

I was driving my roadster, and the '40 coupe was about halfway apart/halfway together between drivetrains two and three. My '41 pickup was sitting at Mom's house waiting for some attention. Still have all of them, although I need some thrash time to get the coupe and roadster mobile again..... Maybe in the spring.

  16. Me too!! The cheap and easy part that is....

I was driving (when it started - damned SU carbs) a 1969 Volvo 142 with 35,000 on it. Taught my girlfriend to drive stick in that car, but that's another story there....

20 years ago i turned 16.the year before i had started trying to get enough parts together to get my 53 ford running, then my dad drags home a 73 camaro. it was rough needed a new wiring harness.fender,door.paint.but it ran...so the first thing i did was primer it.then installed some headers i bought at a yardsale.when that motor took a dump.i built a hot 350 and rebuilt the tranny , and got a 3:42 posi rearend.when i took my dad for a ride ,he made me pull it into the shop...he started welding in a roll bar......he said i couldnt drive it with out it...i had the only car in school witha rollbar

    I totally rebuilt a '70 Opel GT.

  20. At first I thought... I wan't building anything twenty years ago. But then I reallized, *crap* I AM that OLD. I was building a '66 bug. I'm not sure what they call 'em now but it was "Cal look" back then, with a lowered beam, monochrome paint (well gray primer anyway) and pink and blue pinstripes. In Charlotte MI back then there were only two of us VW guys.

  21. 20 years ago was a 78 caprice with a 350 that I drove until my 1940 Business coupe was running.......MAN I am bummed I sold that. I will try to dig some photos out. It was hotrodded in the 60s with a chevy 283, 3 2's, and a 4 speed tranny. One of my old friends still has it in a garage in Illinois.

Try almost 40 years ago.!! The 56 Dodge was my first car . Started work on it before I got a drivers license.

The van was a great vehicle of debauchery. site of my first sexual encounter.I still wish I had both of them.

Had just got a divorce a year or so earlier, and I was drivin' a '75 'Vette Roadster, and a 72 Harley FLH that looked like a prototype for todays Road Kings. Wish I still had that ol' Shovelhead!

20 years ago... damn, that's a lifetime ago! First car I ever owned. 1972 Ford Mustang. That son of a bitch had more bondo in it than a plastic factory, but at the time, I thought it was one cool ride. 302 under the hood, and it sure got me in trouble a time or two with the NYPD. I killed it one rainy night after jumping on the pedal when the traffic light turned green. Those cars had no weight in the rear. Spun it three times and crushed it against a telephone pole. The only thing hurt besides the car was my pride.

20 years ago I was 3, riding my trike in the backyard and filling it up at my gas pump. I was also winning big wheel races at day care, unfortunately I can't find that pic... must be at home.
