I had a 74 Cougar with a 429 out of a 71 Tbird it was .030 over with a set of CJ heads a pretty heathy cam Cnt remember the specs of it tho. What a runner it was I would probably still be driving it but I was Tboned in it at a street light in Tucson by a Citation. Still have the engine in dry storage at my folks place some day I get down there and pick it up.

20 years ago, I was 22, and had just finished building a replica of the Miami Vice Daytona Spyder (which I would take to LA to be filmed for Max Headroom a coupl years later) as a shop advertisement. My daily driver was a '76 Pontiac Grand LeMans, and my race car was a Mazda RX3.

20 years ago I was 30 and had been out of the car hobby for about 6 years already (just got back into it again 4 years ago). In 1978 (27 yrs ago!!) I had just finished torch lowering my 66 Catalina. I loved that car. It was hit while parked on my wedding day and totaled by a drunk. Luckily, that wasn't an omen as to how my marriage would go. :D

Yeah, it was built from a wrecked '75. Had to mod the suspension as the Daytona was about 500 lbs lighter than the stock Corvette. Built up the 350 a little. The car ran quicker than an original Ferrari Daytona to about 120 or so.

The car did it's job advertising my shop, and I got a lot more high end work afterwards, including building two more of them for customers (another black one and a red one) and a bunch more paint jobs on rods.

  10. I was driving a Citroen Acadiane Mixte (an ex-French Post Office) van like the one below.

It had 602cc (that's CC and not CI) with a whopping 38BHP at 6000 revs (it was the high compression engine).

It looked weird even then and even over here!!

  15. Russell,

I voted Childrens Choice for your coupe at the Helensville 1988 Street Rod Nationals! I really liked that coupe of yours and perhaps thats one of the reasons why I like Model A's, early Fords and early Ford styling. Last time I saw the car it was at Pete Dore's "BIG" shop at Neil Park Drive, East Tamaki. It was getting fitted with all new Superbell and Pete and Jakes front end. I know that you had spent a bit on Deuce Factory stuff for the front end so I couldnt quite work that out. An injected 5.0L Ford and overdrive auto were also being fitted.

Would still be a neat car to have on the road today!

  16. Well, I was in college and driving my 74 V-8 Vega. A real practical car (?) with 4.10 geared 12-bolt rearend with posi, subframe connectors, 350 Chevy with turbo 400 trans. At least it was all under the hood and no big gay hood scoop or tubbed rearend. Just looked like a Vega with bigger rear tires and sounded real good, hahaha. Actually built the car in 82 and drove it for 6 years, past college into the "working world". Also had a 82 Yamaha turbo Seca bike, that was modified to put out 15 lbs of boost, fun when it was on the boost! Much easier to park the bike at college than the car.

Don't have either of them anymore, would not mind another V-8 Vega, it was a fun car.

  17. I was between rides 20 years ago. 30 years ago I had the orange one and 18 years ago I was in the black one.

  19. I was 8...I remember having a bike...not sure of the make, but it had ape hangers, banana seat with gold flake, a 5-speed T-handle shifter between your legs and a slick rear tire. I also had a homemade scooter made from 2 x 6's with roller skate wheels.

  22. I read 6 pages I might as well add mine
    49 years ago.....41 Chev coupe
    45 years ago.....packard powered 51 Olds 88
40 years ago.....46 ford sedan delivery flat motor 39 trans zypher gears
35 years ago.....cad powered 48 plymouth sedan original black paint
    30 years ago.....T-bucket 289 with a tunnel ram
25 years ago.....38 ford p.u. on 65 ford chassis shortened ten inchs
    20 years ago.....dropped 67 cad cpdeville with moon disc's

I've had many more during that time but those listed were rain or shine daily drivers except the packard powered olds, my daily driver at that time was a 360 horse vette powered 56 Ford business coupe. don't have any of those now because I'm a compulsive buyer and seldom have had room for more 20 cars at any given time.

  23. AA/BAD. I had just finished a 27 T roadster. 241 Dodge hemi, auto, 8" Ford rear. 86 was a so so year for racing.

20 years ago I was an Apprentice Toolmaker,
with a '65 Pontiac Parisianne Custom Sport 2 door Fastback,
    and a '67 Pontiac Laurentian 4 door.

Between the two of them,I always had something to drive.
When one was broke,I'd drive the other, when they were both broke,
I'd borrow parts from one to fix the other.

In 86 I sold my last Vette, a 66 roadster with a nice 350 that I put over 150K on it. Sold my 35 Buick 2dr with a 390 Cad also that year to concentrate more on family as I had 2 teenage boys who needed some serious attitud eadjustment.
One is a USAF Major now and the other does computer IT stuff when he aint making babies.

That was also the year I bought a 85 Dodge B250 van and put 394K on it before I parked it back in December.

Seems that we all go thru a cold spell a few times over our lives but in my case I ALWAYS come back to my roots!
