20 years ago? 1973 Datsun pickup with a small block Ford (302) and a C4 (now my son has it with a full cage, 406 sbc & Powerglide, runs 10s), a fairly clean 1962 Corvair Spyder coupe (yep, the turbo worked!) and a nasty Kawasaki 500 three cylinder motorcycle.

20 years ago I was getting ready to sell the '63 Lotus Super 7 that I'd owned, restored and raced for 17 years.

It was replaced by a '67 Chev stepside PU with a chopped top and a 400 smallblock.

Twenty years ago I was driving the 62 and I still am driving it although it has required a bit of a facelift here and there. I have never liked them stock, just me and if they are a little noisy then all the better. Twenty years ago I was restoring mainly classics for a living-now its back to a hobby. The 35 Packard 12 (Dietrich body) was retrieved out of a junkyard and the pictures cannot describe how poor the condition was. Fun to bring it back. I did really all of the work except for some of the interior (I had to redo the whole interior due to substandard work) and Ron Fournier did the sheetmetal work (a bunch of fun working with him-a real craftsman). Made for great before and after photos. The car held its own on the show circuit in the mid eighties to early nineties.-Jim

"72 Malibu 350 4 door hardtop. Headers, Holley, Edelbrock, Shift-kit, before anybody really cared about chevelles and the like. Very fast car, couldn't keep tires on it. Now, I can't even find a rusty chevelle wagon anymore.

About 20 years ago this was my Daily Driver and my Racer.
    Fiat Abarth 1000TC
Stripped interior, full Roll Cage, Plexi side and back glass, gutted doors, etc...
Had to drive it on the street with ear plugs in, because it was absolutely deafening inside.
It was my only car untill I got fed up with being towed home lots of times after braking something at the Races, and I bought a tow car & trailer.

( Nothing changes... My Roadster was on a Tow Rope after the HAMB Drags too...:D )

    Still have my Fiat Abarth.
    Someday we'll race again...

My Dad shot this of me when I was a little kid. Don't know if I was six, but that would be twenty years ago.

  13. 20 years ago I had this beautiful 65 Olds 442 convertible. It was all original withone repaint and a new top. It had a 400 and the switch-pitch transmission. Being a two speed it was a little sluggish off the line but when I punched it at around 45 it would downshift and throw you back in the seat. I ran it with black stock steel wheels and a set of G70-14 Kelly Springfield Super Chargers that I blistered whenever possible. That was a pretty car and I thought it looked better with the top up although I loved driving it with the top down.

1985-1986.. Daily driver was a 71 Chevy Cheyenne Pickup with a rebuilt 283 (still got that motor, it's about to go in to my 52). Weekends I drove an M48A5 Patton series tank for the National Guard. Guess I had a love of antique iron even then.

I was in high school and driving a 74 Laguna Chevelle. My dad and I went through the motor, had the heads ported and polished, 268 High Energy cam, aluminum intake, 4 barrel headers, glass pack header mufflers and pipes all with way out the back. That thing was loud as hell and gaudy too! It was painted 75 corvette blue with candy purple, maroon, orange, and blue stripes. Big stripes. The rear end was way up in the air using airshocks, had to do that to clear the N50 15's on 10 inch aluminum spoke wheels (kind of like the wheels on the General Lee). The floods in the early 1990's here in Iowa took that car out.

  25. Was driving a 69 442 hardtop, 400 4 speed. Silver with black interior and a black Hurst Olds strip (68 style). Would blow the doors off a buddy of mine who had a 68 Vette ragtop, 350hp, 4 speed. Drove him nuts:rolleyes:

red 66 gto. polished centerlines. i did all of the paint & bodywork my senior year in high school.
69 400 10 3/4 to 1 compression, ram air 4 cam,tri power,4 tube black jack headers, turbo 400 trans with 3000 stall converter,3.55 gears then took out the entire rear end and replaced it with a 67 chevelle 12 bolt rear with 4.11 posi. this was my daily driver for 2 years. it ran 12.80's at riverside. super shops was my disneyland!

in 87 i traded the gto for a super clean canary yellow 55 chevy 150 (no side chrome). keystone classics 327,th 400. i then bought a 55 ford 2 door post for 500 bucks. this was my first 50's style car. grey primer, lowered california rake, wide white walls i had to order because back then no one sold them over the counter. red wheels and moon discs.( also, back then super shops sold moon discs because don garlits ran them on his dragster) dual exhaust (dad talked me in to glass packs) with chrome pea shooter tips. i ended up painting that yellow too.

from then on it was nostalgia for me.
