In '56 @ 2yrs old I was probably breaking in new trike, most likely from Sears or Western Auto. According to family photos of that era, the old man was rockin' a '50 Merc 2dr, soon to be replaced by a '58 Fairlane 500 2dr HT, 352 interceptor special! :D

I was five. I had a tricycle, probably from Monkey Wards or Western Auto.

    Dad had a 53 Ford Customline flathead V8, grandpa p had a 53 Buick, and Grandpa K had a 53 Chevy.

1953 must have been a good year for the local new car dealers.

I was 12 and all my driving was limited to dirt roads or the fields with an Allis-Chalmers WD 45 or '41 Chevy pickup.

My Mom and Dad were 1 in 1956, so I wasn't even a twinkle in their eyes.

I was 8 and giving my old 500 lb.(it seemed that heavy!) bicycle all it could handle. Couple years later I got a NEW bike !!
I still remember the guy up the street in his titty-pink 56 Starliner Ford !!
    Man....was that a sweeet ride.

My dad wasn’t even driving yet in 56… Well, at least he wasn’t driving legally. He did grow up on a farm though.

At 14 years of age, my blue Columbia bicycle was earning my disdain, especially since it had 24" wheels instead of the 26" wheels of a big kids bike. However knowing that the next year I would be eligible for a Learner's Permit, and then a full Drivers License, I was eyeing my Old man's blue and white '55 Olds Super 88 like a starving man watching a turkey dinner.

Was 4 years old in 1956 and was tearing up the sidewalks with a lime green Garton Kiddilac. Looking back, I'm surprised my parents bought me the cheapo version without the hood ornament and electric headlights...cheap bastards:mad:.

bunch of old farts around this place. in 56 my mom and dad either had a 51 Mercury 2 door or maybe they had the 53 Chevrolet 4 door by then. I didn't drive until probably 1964 when I got my first pedal car. if it was not this exact one it was very close.

I bolted a 3 HP Briggs to 2- 2x8 from a packing crate with wheels from whatever wagon axle ( rope) steering , a centrifugal clutch , chain drive. Speedster with choke cable throttle . When my mother witnessed one of our 35 mph runs ( grampa drove beside us ), banned the car & my grandfather , it sure was fun while it lasted !!
