Technical What wheel size?

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by De Konjel, Aug 30, 2020.

  1. I'm building an A-ford speedster around a '31 chassis. Original it has 19" wheels.
Is there an advantage when using smaller wheels like 18" or 17"?

I have always thought taller skinny tires look better on a fenderless speedster. I'd even consider 21" '28-9 wheels and tires.

I like the 18's, allow you to run a tire with more sidewall, everyone has an opinion but the final decision is yours.

Plenty of photos with various size wheels and tires on speedsters here https://www.nwvs.org/ You may have some issues navigating it but that group has a lot of speedsters in it. I had to click my way though the members galleries' one at a time but you get to see a lot of speedsters and maybe see if an Idea works or doesn't in the process.
