Technical What wheels are these

I purchased these wheels that I was told were made by Ford for my 1951 F1 that are 5 lug x 5.5" bolt pattern. They are also 15" diameter and 6" wide, and there is no tabs for center hubcaps on the inside or outside of the center. The wheel is smooth all the way around and doesn't have the 4 slit openings that are usually between most centers that are riveted to the outer rims. I liked the look and was trying to find two more to use. If anyone can help educate me please let me know. Thanks Adam (a newbie)

they don't really look like Ford wheels, do they? No hubcap bumps in the center recess?

They are 5.5" bolt circle, not 5"?

 

I believe Chrysler made wheels similar to those.

 

Yes they are 5.5" spacing. They are 15"diameter and 6" wide and they don't have tabs on the inside or outside for center size hubcaps. I'm stumped.

 

Could be off a trailer; that's not an uncommon bolt pattern for trailers.

 

They did have full wheel covers, so it was a higher end car they came on, is my guess....pickup trucks and trailers generally had small hubcaps as standard equipment.

 

Which has me scratching my head.

BTW, props to the OP for calling them wheels!

Not very likely...unless you have a picture of a Jeep with wheels like this? (the center is different, no hubcap provision, the full wheel cover thing, etc)

that's what I was guessing, but it's kind of hard to find pics of lincoln wheels. What years?

 

yes mopars also - just Imperial's - most all have the extra locating hole for the pin that's on the drum......

 

should be around 49-54 or so....earlier Lincolns were 15x5.5 but had the clips....

 

Thanks so much, that gives me a direction to search. I figured they must be a full hubcap application, or even wondered if they might be an aftermarket type wheel for some race cars at the time that didn't use a hubcap at all???

 

I got some real similar that came off a 54 Lincoln. I only got three,
I'll keep looking for the fourth.

Yep Chrysler Imperial and Town &Country. They used bolts instead of lug nuts and the left side was left hand threads which is one pain in the**** to install......

1955 Chrysler wheels. I think that is the only year.
As a kid, those wheels were highly regarded, as they
generally had 8.20 X 15 tires on them.
Also, perhaps Imperial with 9.50 X 14 tires & same
bolt pattern.

I feel like the wheels on my friend's 57 Lincoln Premier were similar, but I could be mistaken

 

I looked on ebay for pics of 50s Lincoln and Imperial wheels, there are several for sale, but the only one that looks like the OPs wheels is that 56 Lincoln wheel. The others all have some differences, ie holes in the center, different center stamping design, slots around the edge, hub cap nubs, etc.

 

Look on the bumps between the lug nut holes. if they are ford wheels they should be marked that way.

Working on Jeeps for 40 + years & haven't seen one yet.
The Chrysler products have many more holes & safety rims, so these aren't those.
I'd read the info stamped in the recess of the rim, which tells metal thickness, flange depth, etc. in code such as JJ, JK, etc., & manufacturer.
The closest guess so far is Lincoln, & if they are, the centers don't look very Ford-like.

40s Jeeps , I just spent , 125 for the correct wheel for a restored JEEP to hang on the side for a spare !
