Anyone have an idea what I could use to turn the intake back to aluminum color?

What intake problem? All I see is blue stuff that don’t belong.

I finally found something more cringe worthy than the silver flexible radiator hoses.
I think I would have removed that before taking the photo.

Like others who have posted, I don't care for the Skittles look; but it is your vehicle.

As to your question, Dawn Power Cleaner in the spray bottle, let set a few minutes, then paper towels and elbow grease.

  12. Napa sells an "Aluminum Brightener" in a spray bottle that works well. Acid Based. Spray on let it do its work, spray it off with a garden hose!

I tried a bunch of different things ... the aluminum intake would start oxidizing ( white powdery looking )

Took off the air cleaner and covered the carb, distributor and such

Mixed up some Meguirs car wash quad strength in real hot water and used large bristle brush made to wash cars
    and scrubbed the intake

Rinsed the intake off and dried it with cloth ..... still looks ok after a year

Run what you want, I don’t care but which part of what this board believes in do you not understand?

The acid based wheel and grille cleaner will clean it up to look like bare aluminum, but be aware it will dull the piss out of anything shiny it touches, including powder coated wheels and other stuff. To do a really good job, you would need to remove it and have it bead blasted. Good Luck.

Black leads and hoses will clean that up a lot, try degreaser in inlet before you try stronger stuff. If it really really bugs you take it off and get some sort of ceramic coating in an aluminium clouur and you won’t need to touch tilt again

The part where the the progression of fix-up innovations were
( As Goldielocks would say not
too little, not too much )
'Were Just Right', by the year 1965
After that year the design and devopment engineers had too many conflicting influencers to answer to..
That we want to represent the decades of slide rule engineering.
To avoid the unsynthesized styles, that led us to a world of baked bean body styles.
Apologies if not caring is your take. To me it ( vintage ) is all that counts.

Fix all the gas drips first.

Since you are all into polished aluminum and chrome, just go and replace it with one of those Chrome intakes and not have to deal with the aluminum one.

I glass bead blasted mine then clear coated it. Worked great.

That was when I had the intake off to get the heads done.

Doug, I have been saving some of the silver ones for you !

  24. My first thought.
It does appear to be a lot of fuel residue/staining. Try wax and grease remover. Maybe lacquer thinner.

My guess is you want to clean it in place? Kinda takes a few suggestions off the table.
But my question is what intake are you using? I can’t recall seeing one with such pronounced runners before. The Torker I had on my BBC ( but been over 40 years ago) didn’t look so rounded? If that’s the right term, as yours do.
    Just curious:)

    New rules for the hamb.
    Post whatever you want.
A Volkswagen powered Mustang with fat tires.
If anybody says anything about it, just pull out the old
"Good thing I built it for me and not for you."
    Fixes everything.

The OP is asking about cleaning the intake, has had some good suggestions as well as critiques-to be expected, but no reason to pile on.
