per a conversation i was having with one of my buddies, all joking aside, what would a Model A run ? 30 seconds? what trap speed?? (i imagine it would be top speed....) I was just imagining how cool it would be to bring a stocker up to the local track on a Sunday bracket racing day. i bet half the compe***ors would red light after sitting and waiting that long......
In New Zealand they seem to run around the 25 thru 27 second mark. They are stock standard. Light flywheel and a better carb will drop to 23 seconds.
Reminds of when the new volkswagen beetles came out a few years back. The billboards said "Zero to Sixty?....Yes."
There is a thread on here some where about 1 year back where one of our HAMB members, I think in the UK did an astonishing 1/4 with his model A 4 banger, but it was not stock. Maybe somebody else will remember it and post the link. The stock ****** gears and fly wheel are the problem with model A's plus plus remember the engine is only about 50HP.
Check this site out www.flatheadmeltdown.co.uk the 4 banger you mentioned was in our club he just sold the car and kept the motor
Like Tom McCahill in the old Mechanics Illustrated said in a test of a Citroen 2CV, 0-60 was "eventually, if not optimistic!"
years ago i restored a 1956 vw bug with stock 36 hp motor. the tests from mags said 0-60 in 56 seconds at some thing like 55 mph
A stock Model A with a 40hp banger will run 25-27 seconds, depending on how tired the engine is and which body style of Model A. I got my old fenderless and stock height coupe down to 20.9 using a Winfield head, a 94 and a header. Adding a SU1R cam, a lightened flywheel and a Mallory got it down to 18.8 - but I also took the front and rear gl*** out for that run! I'm doing 17.3 @ 77mph now, but that is with a '26 Touring body on the A ch***is, bigger valves, Pertronix ignition, a single 97 and (the best bit) a decent four-speed trans going through a QC. Enbloc is the man for four-bangers on the quarter mile though. A string of 15.7s in a steel roadster...
