I am looking for information on front and rear suspension do's and dont's in a book or guide. Or am I just better off to buy these pieces as kit? I want to run a dropped straight axle up front with parallel leafs in rear on a 40 Ford. I am using an original chassis. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Mike.

    I like these two:
Street Rodder's Chassis and Suspension handbook (HP Books-1346)
Tex Smiths' "How to Build Hot Rod Chassis"
and also So Cal Speed Shops' "how to Build Hot Rod Chassis" by Tim Remus
All cover the basics very well.
If you search these titles on Amazon, you should be able to preview chapters.

+1 for Chassis Engineering. I liked the so-cal book also, but it mainly deals with their 32 Ford frame, good pics though. Both are a great read.

Don't choose just one! There is too much worth reading.

Chassis Engineering [www.chassisengineeringinc.com] catalog would be a great start. Also Weedeeter [weedburner on the HAMB]. Frank Oddo's books are great resources.
But, as has been pointed out, there is a lot of good info available here, start searching.

I want to bring this to the top. I am thinking about a custom frame with dropped straight in the front and four link with coil overs in the back. I have a lot to learn...
