I did 3 rottenchesters on an Offy manifold with the oil fill tube. Guy I sold the car to replaced the corvette valve covers with these modern style flamed ones with the breather/filler caps. With the old corvette covers the front oil filler tube was drilled for a vent line. Read up on it if you use 2g carbs. This is basically set up as a 4 barrel in 3 parts. The outer carbs have plugs in them and they work as "secondaries". When it kicks in the secondaries it'll snap your head back. Gets mileage when running on the center carb till you put your foot in it. With the 350 corvette cam it makes the car scoot and street driveable. I had a bigger cam in it when I had it. He didn't want the "lope" :)

I am running a stock cast iron early 4 barrel manifold with a matching Rochester carb and a early 60's Corvette air cleaner.

  4. Mad I usually keep a cast iron L-79 intake around because I like how they work with a mildly built small block, the average joe doesn't know the difference but truth be told while they are a '60s intake they would not fly on a period car for our purposes.

Problem with the HAMB is that someone would call me on it if it were on a period correct car because there are plenty of fellas around this place that do know the difference.

I have an offy with a part number 5253 2x4 intake, the same basic manifold has been around since about 59 or so. I am sure that it would fly for a period piece in most circles.

I figure my 49 coupe will weigh 3100 lbs with 3.55:1 rear and a Muncie 4 speed. tires are 28" tall. I figure a 10:1 350 and a cam that's 224 duration with 480 lift should make it move pretty good.

Thanks for the kind response porkn******-- I was not as specific as maybe I should have been. My engine is a mostly stock '57 283. The manifold is a '56 unit and the carb is a Rochester 4 jet.

I know the OP wants an aluminum manifold and such -- I just threw out my equipment which works well on my car.

Weiand single 4 (WCVSQ) came out somewhere around 1965. We are running one on a mild 283 with 500 cfm Carter and it runs pretty well.

Here you go. Like George suggested Edelbrock C357 with 2GC Rochesters. Looks pretty much like what you'd see in 1962.

First article, on the engine build itself. This is not necessarily an endor*****t, just posting the article.

Second article, testing intakes (or the effects of choosing too small a carb, depending on how you look at it...;))

Interesting to note that the "overcarburated" combos actually made between 7 and 10 more ft lbs of peak torque as compared to the perf. rpm and 500 cfm afb. Must be the "benefits" of all that extra "velocity"...

  14. I thought that it was interesting that they said that the 660 hadn't been made in years, you can still buy them new. Also I noticed that they milled the air horn and didn't bother to radius the entry if your not going to finish the job pretty much all milling the air horn does for you is ruin your idle quality.

You can make an engine run and run well over carbureted, you being falcon George specific here (and maybe select few others) for the mul***udes it is best to stick with smaller carbs and out of the box performance. ;)

  15. Well you and I both know that 500 cfm carbs are for 6 cylinders again that goes back to tuning. I will never be the tuner that some on here are but I still won't compromise performance for looks. One should never own a sheep in wolf's clothing, a wolf may take you up on it. ;)

Now I would or could be convinced to run a pair of 500 holleys back to front on a 2x4 intake, 1000 cfm should feed pretty much anything I'll even drive to and from. :)

Happens every time. For like 4 straight years. Deto! Hey if your going to step up to multi carbs there are a couple of guy's on the board that have really dialed in the 3 2's.
