I'm putting new floor braces in my 50 Plymouth. Is it advisable or not to put cross braces on them for added support. Thanks for any advice
you might need to give us a bit more info, so we can better answer your question. In general, most original floors had adequate bracing. If you rebuild everything like it was originally, it should work fine. But if the replacement floor is does not have the same contours as the original, you may need some more bracing to keep it from "oil canning". What did you have in mind?
The floors were toast and the prefabbed ones I ordered were trash, and so I bought 18 ga cold rolled sheet metal and pieced them in between the braces. The braces were all rotted out and I cut and welded replacements in. I just thought if I weld in some support braces it would be a stronger system. It might stiffen the ride up too much though, I don't know. On the other hand, these old Plymouths had a kind of springy bounce to them, and I thought it might help to stabilize it a little better, just don't know
