A friend & co worker once dragged in In a 57 Chevy 2 dr hardtop basket case & asked a few of us co workers what we honestly thought about it, me being thoughtful of his feelings said nothing & I knew it was coming the wise crack standing beside me said & I quote......." If you had a picture you'd have more to work with" hard not to laugh but the truth. He sank few thousand in to it & later sold it for chump change loosing more than necessary. Sometimes the truth is not what we want to hear but what ever floats your boat, so long as your content go for it. Put a pencil to it but if you'd rather invest in a rust free body look here in the south, " no salt ". These things are everywhere. Make for a good road trip & you wouldn't have to get an annual tetnus shot! Flux

With pickup trucks it is all about the cab and frame, everything else can be replace. I have seen a fiberglass tilt nose on one of these trucks so there is half of the battle, right there. Replace with bed with something close and drop your motor in, redo the brakes and just run with it. Just make a driver out of it and enjoy it. I would think that this would be a vehicle to do your first chop on, but with another roof section.

The helpful, educated, suggestion is to part it out if there is anything of value, and scrap the rest. Bob

  5. Im not used to that much rust out here in the dry country. I'd come out here and find a better truck.

In my neck of the woods, finding a dry big truck cab from a farm or ranch truck is pretty easy. The F1 parts are the hard part. If the frame is good and you decide to start piecing it back together, a cab swap would be the easy way.

If you restored a car that had similar rust, you already should know that once you get into it, the rust is always 3 times worse once you start taking paint off and taking things apart. What would I do? First off, I wouldn't have bothered loading it up onto the trailer. Like others have said, there are lots of these trucks out there. If you want to drive it like it is, then you are probably on the wrong forum. I tell people the rat craze came and left.
In the old days, there wasn't a single hot rodder that purposely drove something that looked like shit. We all wanted our stuff to look good. The only reason the people I know ran primer was because they couldn't afford a paint job. Get rid of it. I don't see a single panel anywhere on the truck that is worth saving, except maybe the tops of the doors. Good luck with whichever way you choose to go. You did ask.

I guess my question is how much does it NEED to be a driver? Cheap rusty pickups are a handy, you don't worry about them, you can park/haul anything you want. You could replace things one at a time as long as the bones are solid.

It will never be a "make money" situation, but if you like an old pickup I don't see what the harm would be. Just don't get silly with spending money on it.
