The proportions are not bad, and the Chevie quarters are pretty cool. If you went the last 10% and painted all the rusted parts the same color as the body, it wouldn't give me that first impression of being a rat rod. Also, install the trim for the 57 chev tail and it would look great.

    from nowhere...

Killer car, spot-on... but most folks couldn't build it for $ 2500.00 bucks...people a little earlier along on the path perhaps don't have the skills, the connections, the deal-making savvy, the knowledge, the friends with machine shops, etc......to build this, let alone for for $2500.00.

I assume he built it himself?
I think thats leaps and bounds above a lot of other peoples claims...

Perhaps in 10 years, he'll have a feature car in a popular mag...5 years?
    Who knows...ya' gotta start somewhere

Trim is going back on the car this winter, as well as the cut down rear 57 bumper with guards. I liked the rusted look in the front, my son said it looked like the Beverly Hillbillys. Instead of Take a Kid Fishing, I also Take a Kid Welding. Trying to teach him the trade, he is 11, and maybe watching him build his own ride one day.

I'd say the drivers side floor says it all. WRONG

to me that's a RAT ROD just as much as the one KIRK posted from Billetproof with the square headers. safety has nothing to do with it.

  7. how does this sound? call it a "high end" rat rod with potential to be a "low end" hot rod. it definitely could be brought around.

  8. This thread=loss of time, waste of bandwidth, somebody kill this fucking thing.

You asked and I respond: This rat bastard is fugly and looks NOTHING like anything that was built traditionally in the day. You can RANT all you want, but this POS looks like NOTHING from the "day." Some of you guys need to spend more time researching traditional rods rather than trying to create these "creatures." Have you EVER tried reaching out to traditional writers like Don Montgomery and tried to a LEAST try to look at what was "then?" THEN, you challenge guys like Kirk who know WTF they are talking about? Go ahead... and if you clowns dominate.....I'm gone. What a joke.

I'm glad it comes across that way. It's always hard to express emotion in type.

I don't have the talent to do the amazing metalwork he did, but I wouldn't cut corners and use garbage, I would figure out how to do it and try until I got it right. The point is that traditional styled cars can be built on almost any budget, they just take dedication, research and elbow grease.

looks kinda far out, and if it was painted with some candies and flakes with lots of chrome it might look cool, but i'm not a traditional nerd so I wont call it a POS. I'll call it, your car.

Its a street rod, for sure, and not one of those shop built custom street rods but a real honest to goodness street rod. IMHO. Used to see them all over in the 40's, 50's.

  16. KIRK! don't talk that way of yourself. Just remember you're smart enough, you're good enough, and dog-gone-it people like you! :D

Again, dissing someone who actually knows hot rods.

My persistence is because it seems like lately more of the build-whatever-the-hell-you-want-and-it's automatically-a hot-rod crowd is the loudest on here. That's not what this place is about.

I would agree... It is a Rat Rod. It is all shock factor with no real substance. And there is nothing wrong with that either. I enjoy looking at all the silly little trinkets and what not when I see these cars, but I would not want to own one. I'm sure it draws a crowd at the shows and it makes people smile... but it is still a Rat Rod... sorry.
It does not have to be poorly crafted to be Ratty in my opinion.

Oh, and btw... In the new Rodders Journal in the write up about the new Danbury Mint "Little Deuce Coupe" model. They say it has a license plate floor board patch. :)

Whew....glad I know its classified as a Rat to most people.....Now I can sit with the rest of the cool cars and primer on my shit as everyone else polishes theres......LOL. I like all type of cars, and I have several. Building a 54 Chevy now, going to make a taildragger out of it if KIRK will let me. I am partial to Satin Black, so it may be called a Rat also. Got alot of ideas for it through the tech archives, going to try to put them to work. Take Care, glad I could stir up some crap. I'll take some Niquil now and go to sleep

Where did I say either of those things? I do know hot rods, it's my job to know them. If you know them so well, why are you asking what your own car is?

All I'm doing is stating facts. Counter them with other facts and we have a debate. I don't think that stating facts makes me god. But if you do, please send your money to me so I can make sure you get to heaven.

Man, what is your problem? PLEASE show us your basis for this thing based on history. Again, you are more than entitled to build what in the hell you want, but don't think that you know what in the hell is a traditional hot rod is by your compilation of bolts as evidenced by this thing.

You started this thread by asking us what we think this thing should be classified as and you obviously cannot take the opinions. STAY OFF this thing if you can't take the heat!!!!

That pretty much sums it up. You wanted to stir up shit by posting what you knew was a rat rod? BTW primer (or satin black) and rust don't make a rat rod. A taildragger sounds cool, unless you attach a bunch of non-car related garbage to it.

Again, please build anything you want, seriously. I'll argue all day long for that right. Just don't bring a cat to a dog show and get mad when everyone points out that you have a cat.

I wanted to stir up a fact that some of the younger guys that are trying to get in this forum are getting ran off simply because they start a sentence with Rat. They don't know better, or should read more, before posting. Giving the guys shit about saying rat, and not pointing them in the right direction, is not good in my opinion. I have, and have built way better, and different cars than the one I posted, just using it as a guide to see what is said....and as for as what Ebert said, I can take any heat. Heat wasn't what I was talking about, if you call it rat that fine, but POS it's not.

You just don't get it. Have you ever seen the posts about the young man named Kennedy and his A-Bone? He does not waste his time "trying to stir up the shit" but instead, tends his time working dilligently gaining an appreciable understanding of what rods were in their time. AND he delivered. Most of the guys and gals (regardless of age) that are on this thing for the long haul are people who appreciate traditional rods and who take the time to STUDY them. You asked us, by your thread, what we thought of your ride. Some liked it and some (like me) did not. Everyone is entitled to build what they want and like....which is way cool. However, don't ask us what we think and expect a nun's response. I have NEVER seen anything like your ride in the years that I have followed our deal.....do not expect guys like me to gravitate towards things that make no sense based on our understanding of traditional hot rods. Maybe YOU should consider a different forum.
