I LOVE 61 Dodge Darts. You never really see them. One of teh Beatniks (I think) had hardtopped a Seneca sedan. It looked even better than the real hardtops. I only saw pics of it from one show.

Phoenix was the 61 Hardtop Dart. I think the Polara was one step below the Phoenix.

Dude, the car is pretty damn cool and has a ton of potential, even if you just slammed it and drove it.

That gold polara is killer, use that as a benchmark.

Remove the front bumper. Ship to me in Chicago. Would work well on the 48 Buick. Remove grille and move h/lamp ***ys up 1 1/2" and rework stock grille to new configuration. Fab a new lower grille panel, rework the fender peak bulges so they start at the corners of the grille. "To section or not to section. That is the question ." Where's Shakespeare when you need him.The front would really benefit from a section but the rear proportions are cl***ic custom. Almost needs a pie cut from the rear of the quarter windows to the frt edge of the grille. Modify the fins slightly but leave the rest of the rear end alone.

Very cool car. Chop it right away. The lines are there, just need to exagerate them. May have to change all of the front end but the back is perfect. Keep us updated.~Brian

I would proudly mob that thing everywhere, its unique, has great lines and it is original

  7. super stock dodge!

  8. I'd give it to oldcarmike. He LOVES off beat cars like that. That crazy bald guy would drive the wheels off the thing. Hell, he'd even fly out, pick it up, drive it back to Chicago, and post the adventure on the HAMB.

    Just a thought....

i personally dont think it's ugly..it's not like it has big cut down doors or somethin real ugly in it..it's just a car with a bunch of different lines.i'm sure a customizer would love that.it's all a matter of taste.just like all the 50s dodges are nice cept for bad boxy parts here and there

'61 Dodge is one of the coolest 60's Mopars there were, I can't understand why anyone thinks they're ugly.

People think my '60 Fury is ugly too, same basic bodystyle but with huge crazy fins. I've really gotta get this finished. Here's a pic during the two door conversion.

I kinda dig it. A longer roofline would tie the sculpted front and rear together nicely though (think '66 Charger).

the response to this post is killin' me... I only did it cuz I just figured out how to ad bigger pics here.. did it as a test.

I recently spent 180.00 on SIX wheel cylinders. (4 in the front, 2 in the back) I found a place that sells new drums for 80 bucks each. they are unique, 1961 and earlier and I need at least one.

it has been in the corner of my shop for about 3 years waiting for me to fix these brakes. I bet I didn't drive it more than 1000 miles in the 5 years before that, though I have put over 30,000 on it since I've owned it.

I am now inspired to get it back on the road. astro supemes, slightly low. I got a 390 CFM holley and a four barrel intake for the six. prolly put some duals and gl***packs on it.

that 61 Dodge/Chrysler rules. It combines my favorite Chrysler front end, with my favorite Dodge. Are you sure that front end isn't a '62 300?

Hell, a car that ugly should be out of sight. Ship it covered to Virginia where I
will keep it out of sight from others. Seriously, my grand dad had one and I always thought it was the coolest. Drive that puppy like it is.

in 1961 the crossram motors were 383. I actually saw an original unrestored cross ram 4 door a few years back.

in 1961 HOT ROD magazine did a road test on a crossram "post" car like mine. that would be the one to have. most crossram cars were polara's .. D-500.
