Let me first say, I like both of these cars, I am not asking for what is kool opinions, just what would you do? Which car would you buy? 1954 Chevy 4 Door. $3000 The Good: Straight Body, no rust, 12v conversion, new tires, new exhaust, new nice interior. New clutch, new Alternator, 12 V conversion. It is in Black Primer, with black steelies. The Bad: 235 3 speed with closed drive line. It can be changed in the future. I dont mind going slow, just want to have bulletproof reliability. Would I ever get my money out of it being a 4 door? Would I have to put 15K in to get a 10K car? Or 1953 Plymouth Cambridge 2 Door Post $4500 The Good: All Original, good body, no rust. Runs and drives well, but has sat for a few months due to an illness. Kinda different, dont see to many of these. The Bad: Original Plymouth Flathead 6 with 3 speed. I have read these have very low HP, cant get out of their own way. Parts harder to find. What would you do? Neither is an ok choice too. Thanks for reading! <O</O
I would probably go with the Chevy, four doors can be cool... just remember it will be your car and it only has to make you happy... no one else...
I'd go with the plymouth - 2 doors have better resale (since that's obviously a concern) plus it has the benefit of being different, not going to see another for awhile...
the plymouth is overpriced. the chevy is probably a fair deal but i wouldnt buy it expecting to turn a profit. thats the kind of car you can put a lot into with little return at sale time.
The plymouth would be my choice just because either car would get a v-8 right off the bat. It would have to be a nice car for that price. 2 doors are always a better investment. You know that already though. Jeff
I didn't even have to read the descriptions..... I would never buy either one....save your money for something you really want. I would NEVER buy a 4 door....what a waste!!!!
Keep looking, You may not think you will be selling but you may want to move up or get out some day, spend your hard earned money on something a little more valuable. There seems to be alot of good deals out there, keep your eyes and ears open.
You don't seem happy with either one. It's a big world.... Keep looking. Don't buy or build something that you don't really want. You will never be happy and you may lose interest in it. ( just my opinion) There are still good deals out there. You just have to find it.
In a choice between the two, I'd buy the Chevy and convert it. But I think both of them are kinda pricey. Rust free is good, but 3K still seems a bit steep. If he'd come down a bit and if the right donor car came along, that'd be what I'd do. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=78120
If I HAD to choose, I'd take the Chevy. IMO, both are overpriced and I've found the Plymouth over and over again for under $2k. At those prices, they'll be $7k cars before they're done and that's way above market unless #2 condition or better. as many have said, keep looking.
I NEVER buy a car I don't want-you don't seem too enthused about either one, and with good reason-keep looking there's better cars and better deals out there. Like grandma said-"sin in haste, repent in leisure."
Keep looking. You don't sound stoked about either one. Decide what you want, and go buy whatever "it" happens to be. Don't settle for a choice between two so-so options you're not enthused about. Oh, and if you buy what you REALLY want, you don't have to worry about resale, as you'll probably never get rid of it. It's figuring out what you really want that's the hard part.
Neither one, IMO. Chevy's a little too much $$, not much of a market for early 50's Mopars and more importantly, you don't sound too enthusiastic about either. Wait for the one that comes along that gets your pulse rate up.
