Does this little monster deserve a build discussion and a poll?

I think it does, but then again I lose sleep over the oddest of builds.

I found this little "gem" stashed away in a local salvage yard late last year. I’ve chased down information that indicates its a 1959 Simca P60 Aronde Coupe designed by Facel. A real odd little coupe for here in Montana. (Chrysler had some involvement with Simca in that time period Verbal Kint thinks it looks like a small 56 Chrylser 300) Its got some innovative features for the late 50’s, trip odometer, bucket seats that automatically slide forward when tilted for entry, etc..

    <O:p
    So here is the poll

    <O:pSimca G***er – straight axle, V8 60
Simca Custom Coupe – inspired by Nads Consul Capri
Simca “Euro Trash” Rallye – minilites, fogs etc
Sell it to a collector/restorer and move on
Have it hauled away and crushed out of frustration
    Or ????

I’d like to build it but like a lot of HAMBers I already have a **** load of projects in the works. Does it deserve to be built before my Edsel Delivery, Ford Panel, etc. or does building this little monster warrant selling off one or more? Only so much time/money.

Important - give me some specifics on what you'd do to it

    <O:p
And despite what Verbal Kint thinks it’s way better as a custom than a nose up g***er, but VK has always had ****ty taste.

I really like Nads Consul Capri as a cruzer but it would be great to "upset" the restorers with an obnoxious loud g***er.

I don't have bad taste... its just unrefined at this point

At times I've thought it looks like a mini-cross between between a 56 chev and 55 Chrysler 300

It has some great details for a micro, peaked head light rings, rolled/shaped interior trim pieces, banjo wheel, leather straps for the jack mount, etc

I blew past the poll without reading anything...straight to the pictures...when I saw the engine bay I thought "great place to put a Ford V8-60 flathead".

Then I scrolled back to the poll choices...and lo and behold..great minds think alike!

I couldn't tell you which one, but one of my early sixties issues of Car Craft has a picture of one of those done up as a g***er! I've been looking at that picture for years thinking that it looks cool, but the caption doesn't tell what the car is, just the drivers name. I seem to remember that is in coverage from the Pamona winternationals from '62 or '63 or so. Normally I would say go with the hopped up eurotrash option, but in light of that picture I would have to say G***er! I'll take a look later today and see if I can find the picture.

I voted "Euro trash". Maybe '60s rally trim.
Never did understand that g***er thang.

G***er all the way....and locate the drivers seat way back, so driving from the back seat in middle....

  15. I would be tempted to go the road race route. Remove the roof completely, use a single windscreen (or none), add a single hoop rollbar behind the driver and cover the rest with a tonneau cover. Add a baby Hemi and try not to roll it!

    ...or g***er!

Oh, and are those pipes suppose to be coming out the side like that? ('cause I like it!)

Being the Montana KKOA Director it is hard for me not to go Kustom Sled. My problem is the windshield. I've done some searching and I'm not having much luck. It would help if I knew how to read French. My thoughts lean toward 56 Chevy Lee smooth tailites, 56 Chevy rear wheel openings, 53 Chevy grille with extra teeth, nerf bar bumpers, and a 50 Ford rear window for starters. Or sell it and let someone else have all the fun. I just couldn't see it going to the Crusher. The sidepipes were the first thing I liked about the car. JC Whitney I imagine. Tacky, yet eye catching. Must have appealed to the ladies. Found a package of condoms wedged under the seat when I was cleaning it out.

My neighbor loves that Bus. I found it for him last year. Sat for over thirty years. Parked because the brake line rusted in two under the radiator. Runs like a top. Plan on driving it in the 4th of July Parade tomorrow. You ought to see the 53 Ford Milk truck I sold him. Future posts.

***uming you can get a windshield for it, either go the G***er route (with a Falcon or Chevy II straight six with a bit of set-back, or '60s Euro-rally car.

If not, cut the damned roof off and put a low acrylic (Plexiglas) '60s sports-racer style windshield and side windows or go completely crazy and put an acrylic bubble top on it and go wild custom/show car.

...Oh, and then you buy the Chevy bus to transport it in! There were some guys at the '75 Street Machine Nats with a Pinto Pro-Streeter that transported it in an old converted school bus. At the time, we all thought that was a pretty damned cool set up.

Not entirely HAMB friendly, but I wondered about putting a later FWD rice motor setup in it, if it were to go as a sled. If it goes g***er what front axle would you use?

go find a syclone/typhoon and use the drivetrain complete w/4whl drive and for god's sake, keep it low..

  24. Does that have Buick portholes with chrome pipes stuck in them? It's already a custom.

I like the idea of a sleeper, something that looks like it would be stock outside, but have the biggest motor you can fit in it without having to cut anything obvious...

The problem is WTF you going to find gl*** for it?

Taillights scream '56 Dodge or '57-'58 DeSoto scaled down -

Hoping somebody from overseas logs on with some windshield ideas. regardless of the build it's going to need gl***.

I read your original post and voted to sell it on eBay, It may bring more bucks than you think, accept bids from overseas. Then I looked at the photos again, you need to find the HAMB guy with the contacts for the CARS II cartoon/movie, that may be a future star.

  28. ive already tried it, the motor is free. also it did have a asome set of cone hubcaps and door knobs in the grill. the fake pipes comining out of the fenders rule too.

Glad to know we shop in the same salvage yards. First thing I got rid of was the hubcaps when I repaired the tires. If it goes Sled I have a set of Lancer 14's. If G***er Torq Thrusts of course. Took the door knobs out of the grille also. Trying to get the hood latch tig welded so it will open properly.

  30. cool, hey you boys better stay away from those caddy's, i still need parts:D. better yet just stay away from ALL those old parts.:D
