Cut the roof off, make it a roadster for land speed racing (with the V860)

I'm thinking fat 14" tires all around, a Quad 4 engine built to the hilt, 6 spd, fender flares all around, roll cage and go road racing. I can hear it now shifting form 5th to 6th at about 7-8,000 rpm on the back stretch

Verbal Kint you are a car tease. Have access to a 48 Ford short bus. Still doesn't solve the Simca windshield problem though.

Short wheelbase g***ers are like death on wheels; therefore, I love 'em. I would go that route.

The rally car would also be cool, but I don't see that body being a great kustom.

Story was that it has been in a yard previous to the one I got it from. Roof is not as bad as it looks. I agree though a good kick is deserved.

  10. i wanted that car, when the roof wasnt smashed"up". BTW i have dibs on those taillights and bumper. haha

Road racer for sure.......lowered way down, maybe with a wicked V6 or aluminum Buick V8...

  12. G***er Schm***er- move it on to someone who cares for what it truly is (a rare & very stylish example of 'nouvelle vague' French style). If gl*** can be sourced, it deserves a restoration. Look at the body, no seams- it's a special little coupe. Sell it to Europe, or somewhere where it's intrinsic beauty can be restored and appreciated.
Alternative- sensitive rebuild with artistic merit, ala John D'Agostino.
IMAO- This would be wasted as an ignorant g***er piss- take, or as a clumsy custom, or as something built to "mess with people". I'd Rather see it crushed.

Shoehorn a monster-sized American engine in there and pretend it's a Shelby Cobra.

SPOGGIE EXCELLENT OPINION. Problem - where are the Europeans? One response so far from New Zealand, suggested G***er. I've tried the research so far with no luck. Don't really want to deal with E Bay.

How about that Studebaker P/U in the background??

  16. Don't turn it into a g***er! I'm into French cars, I've got a bunch of old Peugeots, I know many enthusiasts that would kill to have that car. It's super rare to to the point of being just about unobtainable.

If you are going to mod it you'd better fix that roof and fit Simcas version of the V8-60. NO irreversible mods.

    Thanks

My first worry would be trying to find gl*** for it and fixing that jacked up roof. Good find though. I would have bought that too!

Aside from that, I think it´s one of those cars that just doesn´t need much, if anything doing to it. It´s just cool as it is.

Just a few thoughts from a Facel Vega point of view. I ve restored one FV4 from the ground up and have reawakend a HK500 from a 48 year slumber. Parts are going to be challenging , in some cases pricey or may have to be hand made. I have a new rear gl*** for a HK500 and the opening and the roof looks identical from the windshield back. If the Simca is one half as difficult as the Facel to restore expect at least 2 years times and at least $65K plus. The Facel Club has a section devoted to the Simca. Lots of luck on which ever path you decide upon.

Gl*** was one of the main reasons for this post. Yes it is a very low production car. It is probably not sound enough for the big bucks restorer's to consider it. This is a great post so far. But, gl*** ideas. Radical Bubbletop show car was appealing, roadster possibly, custom with a different roof very possible. G***er, cool but what to use for running gear? V860's are almost as rare as the windshield. I don't have the cash for a custom windshield, but I couldn't stand to see it get destroyed.

Because of the roof and windshield I thought custom also. However, there seem to be a lot of G***er Freaks out there.

Since we are talking about a rare little coupe- it really needs a rare little engine! The v8-60 Hemi from Simca do Brazil is the natural choice.

Of course I would add a blower on top too if it were mine (and $$$ was no object).

Rare being the key word. Which would be harder to find, the V8 60 or the windshield. Dollars being a huge object for me, I think someone needs to import it, and do it justice. Car can be had very reasonable. I just wanted to see it get saved.

I was one of the first posters on this deal and had mentioned that I saw one in a period magazine as a g***er. I found it! I don't have a scanner to copy it with, but if you have a magazine collection check out Car Craft Sept. 1964, page 24. It's in the coverage of Hot Rod magazine's drag finals for that year. It does mention that it is a '53 Simca, and has the same basic body shape as yours, with a different roof line. I use the term "g***er" as a generic, because this car ran and won AM/SP (top cl***,modified - sports car), and it says it was powered by a blown and injected hemi. I'm convinced that this is not the only one I have seen done up this way, but this is the only one I have had time to find. P.S. God no to the V8 60!
