I had a body guy look at my 59 Ford wagon yesterday. It needs one quarter worked on and one rocker replaced. If I stripped the car down and sand it to the original paint price is 8500. The guy before me painted it stupid and he is afraid to paint over it. It is cracking already. The car is a four door and I know it not worth that much. My goal is to make it a nice driver that looks good. A little ratty is okay. I like the car but if I go for doing it the right way I own this thing. I can half it for around 5k.

what would I do? I'd sell it and buy a 49-50 Chevrolet. hope this helps.o_O

  3. I feel like being a four door doesn't hurt the value as much since it's a wagon. Now if it was a sedan....then yes.. I'd say don't do it.... Still tough. I agree with not painting over old ****py paint though.

Wagons are worth more than you think...if it was me, I'd strip it and epoxy prime it (some epoxys are water resistant) and since you're in Nevada, rain or water probably isn't much of a problem. Anyway, do the rocker yourself and possibly find a car guy around your town willing to help...not all body shops want to mess with the older stuff. By the time you get it ready, you may find another painter that works out of his garage...or friends may know someone that will give you a better deal...good luck...

Spend your money on tools and your time on learning body work. That investment will last your lifetime.

i guess if your dead flat in love with it maybe its worth it to you. if you just want a grocery getter daily driver than do the stuff yourself. that is a hell of alot of money the rocker isnt that hard to do and you didnt say how much damage there was on the quarter panel i hate to say this and i will get a **** chewing but i would do the work and strip it down and decide on who you want to paint it. even macco doesnt do a bad job if you do a good prep. here comes the **** chewing but are local macco guy does shoot the cars with your material for different prices dont know if all do that.
