Id go for either the 289 or the 300/6. The B/FX falcons made scary horsepower with the 289, so the 289 has potential. (not that anyone is debating it). I d personnaly go for the 300/6. you can find them in any old van or pickup/dually in the late 70's to even the 80's. (late 80's to 90's were mostly fuel injection though.)

Check this out, Scroll down below the Ramber. Here is Bob on one of his tire lifting runs. And in the Falcon having a six for the young fellow would even keep the insurance company happy. I repeat it would take one heck of a strong sb Ford to compete with a 300 6. They are a real good hi performance engine when you get into them.

I hate to say this and really don't want to but many of the Falcon G***ers ran 327 SBC's back in the day.

Yeah most did have Chevys, but the SBF hadn't been very well developed back then. I like the 300 idea best....inlines are super fine, but the cheapest way to go for now would be to buy a later EFI 5.0 HO from a junk GT Mustang or '88-92 Lincoln MK VII, toss the injection ****, carb it and drop it in where the 289 lives for now. With period correct appearance goodies, you'll be right in the game while you decide what you really want to do.

Ford motors in Ford cars are always right!

I started looking on these inlines (As i've done time and time again)and would like to hear more about them:)...

Why do you choose them over ,say ,a 289?

    What they weigh?

Anything you care to add about the 300 or any other six you think would be cool?

    Just looking at every option

  6. He's just getting his license and wants to drive it daily. Going off the wall and bigger sounds cool until until you have to fix it.... and it will probably be on the side of the road. Dependable is more important for a first car(IMO). Don't want to end up hating the car because can't afford to drive it.

THat being said, I had a fairlane with a 289 for a first car and it ran like a ****d ape. Do what you wasnt I guess but don't bite off more than you can chew first time out.

Man ,if your just getting your license stick with the 289.That little motor may only put out 225 hp stock but with the right cam, intake, carb trans and rear end it will suprise you.The main thing is to let the motor breathe like dual plane intake,600 Holley or Edelbrock, no more than 2,1/4" exhaust.I've been in some that would make you think differantly about that motor and owned a couple.Do youself a big favor and do your homework on the 289 and try to talk to others that have used one but for your first street car as said in other answers, you have time to use this one as a learning period and still have a very strong small block that you can feed and have alot of fun with and did I mention that you can wind that 289 to 7k and not hurt it if it's a good motor?I did it repeatedly with mine and never hurt it. Good Luck and keep us posted

A chev 572 crate motor would wake the car up.

might a bit hard to insure for a young lad to drive daily on the street
