What year is this set up found ?? Most 49-54 transmissions I've seen either have this section built into the casting ,,or this piece missing.
that looks like an "artist rendering" of a trans that really looks a bit different than that. The 39-48 trans is also one piece back there. The truck 4 speed trans from that era, non-synchro, has a rear bearing retainer that unbolts, it's not very thick, and the torque tube fits on it. I think I have one if you want pics/dimensions. here's the drawing from the parts manual to give you an idea what it looks like.
I looked at the trans I have, it's a different one...has the torque tube connection on the back of the trans, but the retainer piece is quite a bit bigger, it covers the countershaft bearing. I think the trans in the drawing I posted was used in the mid 30s on only a few models.
little wing, the drawing you have posted looks like the back half of a trukstell overdrive used from 1940 to early 5o's
No ,,the drawing is the install instructions for Hurst 49-54 3 speed shifter. That first picture squirrel posted looks to be the correct part..just need to see how far up the tube ladder that type of mount goes. Some chevy stuff is saying 37-54,,then different fittings for truck ,,car,,3 speed ,,powerglide,,,,but so far nothing reallly clear.
ok still looking This is suppose to be a 1948 and is the only one I have seen with the rear section removable. Is this truck or car ?? Chevy seems to have a few to many different tube set ups.Heres the #'s 591747 GM 7 48 1190 ,,any info would be great
did you look thru this? not sure if it will help, but it might http://chevy.oldcarmanualproject.com/1929_54chevyparts/index.htm
Little wing, that last picture is a 39-48 car transmission. The truck version has a different heavier duty casting, but same gears inside. Also the u-joint ball seat is removable in the car version. Here are the differences described by the overhauling manual.
Cool thank you,,do you know if the 4 bolt pattern ( tube side ) stayed teh same 1935 to 54 ??Looks like it but don't have the pieces to compare
Just checked the master parts catalog, which shows the u-joint ball collar was the same for cars and trucks (1/2 and 3/4 ton) from 1929-54 and bigger trucks from 1929-39. So at least all torque tubes and transmissions should fit together between all those years.
