I have a Chevy 2 ton truck and was just thinking about putting a different engine in it. What year did Chevy start using V8 engines in their 2 ton trucks? Specifically a 6100

You can put any V8 in that truck that you want.

I'm curious if you know what gear is in the rear end? Some of them were pretty steep, even if the big wheels take a little of that away.
Those trucks were made to pull, but not at highway speed.

Just add an auxiliary overdrive transmission! Very common back in the day.

    Looking at an old Motors manual a 6100 or 6100s from 1952 to 1959 only used a 235 or 261 no v8s listed. The 8100 shows a 265 in 1956.

Factory brochure shows the V8 as an option in the 6100, in 1956.
