1955 hand down. all new crown vic, and T bird. GM had all new bel air,star chief,etc.And by far the best looking vett body. And chrysler had all new body's across the board that also were the best looking of all years.
As much as I am a HAMB-guy, I'd have to say, as far as across the board manufacture-wise, without a doubt it's 1969. Mustang Camaro GTO Super Bee Charger Road Runner GTX Coronet R/T Cutlass Buick GS AMX Mercury Cyclone Chevelle Corvette Firebird Just all great looking and great performing. 1969 was a hell of a year. (but 57 and 58 had some beautiful cars)
56, love the body lines and shape of front and rear windshields. Chrome side trim was designed to represent something not just slapped on.
Might be a phase but, for quite a while I've been following just about everything 1959. 59 el camino? fuck!ng awesome. 59 buick! caddy! pontiac, mercs and edsels kinda the end for the pickups I prefer too. Somehow I ended up being MR. 1964, so, I had to vote for 1964. There's a lot to like about General Motors in 1964. Sure, there are better individual cars of other years, but, '64 was on helluva year, especially at GM.

For me who like the early 50:s best its must be 56. That is the last year when all cars still look great whatever bodystyle it have. A 56 4:door, conv, pick up, 2d ht or stationwagon are generally look great no matter which make. And dont forget the hotrods and customs at that era.
Probably 2013.....cars are getting more sophisticated all the time...if thats a good thing That said, I am going with 1955...introduction of the SB Chevy engine.
Just too hard to pick one year, each era had some icons worthy of a good agruement. 57 is tuff to top, I agree. If it's me, make mine '62. I just like 'em all that year, and an Impala just might make a run for the most beautiful ever.
I'll go with 1957, the muscle car era factory hot rods were gaining steam, Olds J2, Pontiac Tri Power, Supercharged Fords and Studebakers, Dual Quads, Fuel Injection, factory hot cams, Dodge D500's and D501's, Chrysler 300C and several others. The cars were great looking. I wish I could have visited the 57 Heaven Museum in Branson, MO before they closed it.
I like some cars from every year, but every car from 1957, from the Coupe DeVille to the Golden Hawk. Just a great year all around.

Yeah, this one is pretty hard, but the pure design elements of the 1960 cars as a whole, have a lot to be said for them. Though very subjective, the '60 Starliners, Impalas, Buick LeSabres and Invictas, Mercury Park Lanes, Pontiac Catalinas, etc ....then again, I'd have no problem voting for '61's or '63's either....you win no matter how you vote..... I voted before checking results. Which I think is the right thing to do. Not that I do what's right. My vote was 1955. But I knew 1957 made more sense. Most cars and trucks looked and performed well by 1957. So, I do agree with 1957 being the best year.
Sorry to you guys who wish I added a few more years in the sixties. Just don't think its the same conversation with 66-69. and OT for the HAMB
The Museum of Modern Art has named the Cord 810/812 as one of the top ten finest industrial styles of all time. It caused a sensation at the New York Auto Show in November. The crowds around the 810 were so dense, attendees stood on the bumpers of nearby cars to get a look. This was the car of the future. The body design of the Cord 810 was the work of designer Gordon M. Buehrig and his team of stylists. Nearly devoid of chrome, the new car was so low that it required no running boards. Pontoon fenders, wraparound grille and concealed headlights were featured. Its engine-turned aircraft style dashboard featured a tachometer and built-in radio. Mechanically the car was innovative with front wheel drive, a pre-select gear transmission, and a Lycoming engine with performance to match its looks. Pretty much anything else from 1937 year was just exceptional and Streamline Moderne was in full swing. Just think of the Bugatti, Delage, Delahaye, Peugeot, Talbot Lago, Lincoln Zephyr but also many of the everyman cars were just sensational. Google 1937 coupe and look at the amazing palette of drop dead gorgeous cars. Yep - hands down 1937 for me all the way....
Ditto on 1937. Most all the major makes looked really good that year. The big fat stylish fenders, hoods coming to a point, and the tall thin grills do it for me. --- Steve ---
I'm biased, as we all are I suppose, but for me it's 1955....because of the leaps and bounds in technology. A few GM models made the leap the previous year with the OHV V8 and slab sided body, but 1955 is generally recognized as a watershed year in both tech and styling...
I am a admitted Deuce nut,,but is that the best year? I like too many cars to claim one year or make over another. HRP
