I am picking up this little A next week and have a question as to the year of the car. We have had a 28 and a 29 5 window coupe before and I thought I knew the differences between the 28-29 and the 30-31. Everything about this car says to me it's a 30-31. The fenders, the curved headlight bar, the band on the cowl, the smooth cowl and the body lines. The man I'm getting it from swears that it's a 29 and says that his paperwork says 29. He has owned the car and driven it for 25 years. I didn't know if there was a late 29 or something that looks like a 30 or if his paperwork has been wrong since he purchased it. Any ideas?
By the seam down though the fender apron it should be a 30. The 31's didn't have that seam and the apron was full length. Some states ***led the cars/trucks as the year they were sold rather than the manufactures year model in that era. That may be one of the cars caught up in that deal. If it has a low serial number for 1930 Model A Fords I'd want to believe that is what happened.
If the engine is original, check the number on it. There is a list on the MAFCA website that has dates for engine stamping. May narrow it down some. Sent from my DROID device using the TJJ mobile app
